Rondo still needs to go through two practices, but Stevens says he's looking good for Wednesday's Celtic season opener.

#Celtics coach Brad Stevens: no minutes restriction w/ Rajon Rondo when he returns, but will play shorter stints with less rest in between.

Brad Stevens says that upon his return, Rajon Rondo will likely play 4-5 minute stints and then have shorter breaks on the bench.

I have to say I'm surprised that he might play in the opener.

With the timetable in place, I thought there was no way in heck he would be out there.

I just hope its not a rush job to get him out there.  Would hate to seem him reaggravate things because he came back too soon.

Yup.

I'll be stoked to see him for the season opener, and holding my breath too.

Precisely this.

Rondo said there is "79%" chance he'll play on opening night. :D

I'd be more worried if this was a player that relied on his shooting or if it was in his dominant hand. As is, I'll go with what they think best and hope for the best, and excited to see Rondo in action.

Man, the crowd is gong to be pumped when they introduce him in the opener.

On the other hand (ha!), we saw how Sullinger's similar injury impacted his game, so my guess is that Rondo will be a little less effective than people might think.

And then, of course, we'll all sit around and argue about it.

The big difference is Sullinger never took time to have surgery or correct his hand issue , he just played through it. Rondo should be much less affected by it.

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised, but if the hand's at the point where it's unlikely to get reinjured, I'm sure he wants to play and the organization wants him to play, so good stuff.  Glad he'll get to play against KG at least one more time.

I just hope its not a rush job to get him out there.  Would hate to seem him reaggravate things because he came back too soon.

It's a high-level tanking strategy designed to have Rondo play at less than 100% and to eventually get injured, while decreasing his market value next summer by giving him an "injury-prone" label so the Celtics can re-sign him for less.

I think it's more that someone's giant ego can't miss the spotlight of opening day....
