Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on the Klay Thompson situation.

I would think a deal probably gets done as I know (or at least I thought) GW thinks highly of Thompson (so much so that they didn't deal him for K-Love.)

But, if things fall through, Thomphons would be a great shooting guard next to Rondo because he can score.

Only reason why I included Iguodala's name in the title is because if the Warriors do secure Klay, would Iguodala's contract become a casualty and if so, would he be a good Celts target?

I think he'd be another good running mate alongside Rondo.

You add a Deandre Jordan next summer and this becomes a fun team

Rondo/Smart
Bradley or Thompson
Iggy or Jeff Green
Sully/Olynyk
Jordan.

I've been saying for years now that Iguodala would be the perfect SG beside Rondo and Green.  I think then we'd only be a Tyson Chandler type C away from being a contender.  I'd gladly take Thompson as well, though GS would be foolish to trade either.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I believe the Warriors already have a ton of money invested in Curry, Iguodala, David Lee and Andrew Bogut.

So, are they going to have enough money to resign Thompson?

If they do, wouldn't someone have to be the odd man out?

I'm always skeptical about someone's camp. I think it's a cop-out, either Klay Thompson himself is frustrated or he isn't, no need to reference the camp.

No matter what anyone says Klay is going to be resigned.

Klay is 90% a lock to stay right now.  I could see G.S. moving a guy but it's likely only after the season when Klay is officially resigned.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
With Barnes looking better than last year and with Thompson's deal coming up, I have to imagine that GSW is at least beginning to search for an Iggy deal. He is probably near the top of the list of contracts they would love to move.

I like Thompson. He'd be a good piece towards contention. But not at the max, which he obviously wants.

Thompson only because he's younger and only going to get better. 3 years ago it's AI hands down an he'd still be the perfect fit next to green and rondo, but at this point he'd be too much dough. Mine as well give it to the guy who is only going to get better.

Klay Thompson is a nice player, but he hasn't improved at all on a per minute basis in his three years in the NBA. He is what he is most likely and will not improve in the areas where you'd like to see a max player at. He can't get to the free throw line. He's not a great passer. His defense coincidently 'became better' after bringing Iggy in and Draymond Green developed. He's an amazing shooter, but he's just a Wally Szerbiack with less passing skills and no injury issues. I would take him for 10-12 million but never at the max.

GSW and Chicago are the best at overhyping their young players. Not to say they are bad, but it's laughable that they would hold out on Klay for Love like they apparently did.

For as much hate Bradley gets I'll stick with him at 8 million. He can give you 80% of what Thompson can. Only issue is lack of height which sucks for sure and is a definite sticking point.

Barnes really isn't looking much better and, along with David Lee, he's a prime candidate for a trade.

I think some of you are overlooking the fact that Iguodala is a really crucial part of the Warriors' system -- not only as their best defender, but for his playmaking skills that not only take offensive pressure off Curry and allow him to operate off the ball, but also give the team another capable ballhandler whenever Curry's on the bench.  I really don't see them moving him.  He's honestly probably their second-most important player... yes, even ahead of Thompson and Bogut.

(though I will acknowledge that Iguodala's role in a new offense under a new coach may shift considerably)

But still, I think they'd sooner trade Barnes (who simply just doesn't seem like he'll be able to fully blossom with that team) and Lee (who's merely an expensive luxury at this point) than even consider moving Iggy.

True, Barnes could end up being the odd man out.

Guess I didn't figure him because he wouldn't be as expensive and I guess I didn't realize how vital A.I. is to the Warriors.

But yeah, I can see Curry/Thompson/Iggy as the 3 most important players on the Warriors. I am just surprised they haven't extended Thompson yet.

So here's the next question.

At the trade deadline (depending on where both teams are), could the Celts possibly pry David Lee and Harrison Barnes from GW?

Klay isnt going anywhere, if he is, they would have traded him for Kevin Love already.

That contract dispute is just a power play by his side to secure a max contract. Klay is RFA and the Dubs have all the leverage. If he gets a max offer sheet, they can easily just match it. If he doesnt, then Dubs doesnt have to pay max.

His camp is just pushing for the max so he gets paid, regardless of performance. Sorry, not going to happen...

Really? Why? Iguodala isn't that good and he's not the best shooter around. Thompson is a much better fit, but obviously it's a real long shot to have him.
