  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Defensive monster- I mean All NBA defensive level potential- better than Avery Bradley. Smart and Bradley=the best defensive guard tandem in the NBA already? Discuss.

Vision and awareness of a great point guard with intangibles of a John Stockton level player.
If his 3 point shot reaches 40% and his dribble penetration is as good as it was in college we've got an All Star when Klay Thompson and DeMar Derozan are in the discussion.

This is great to see and has me really happy with the pick- so lucky to get this kid at #6 when he'd be pick #1, 2 or 3 in many other drafts.

What is Marcus Smart's ceiling?

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The second I actually took the time to look at all the rookies, I realized we got the best rookie in the draft aside from Embiid.

He will be an all star one day, people are forgetting this man will be a force to the basket all year, A Mini Lebron as a PG. He hasn't drove to the basket all preseason because he and the Coaching staff already know he can. He gets that 3 point down pat as he has already improved dramatically.

Floor and ceiling (based primarily on level of talent and impact and secondarily on style of play):

Floor: Post-injury defensive Tony Allen with pre-injury offensive Tony Allen
Ceiling: Some combination of Dennis Johnson, Chauncey Billups and Dwyane Wade

This kid could be special. Nothing I saw in the preseason would deter me from being confident in that statement. We saw unique defensive ability and we were affirmed of his ability to read defenses and attack accordingly. He'll only get better at this as he sees more time on the floor. As his dribble drives increased in numbers we were given more of an opportunity to analyze important aspects of his offensive potential such as his elite body control and love for contact. I see him as a Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook-type when it comes to shot development... he doesn't have such poor mechanics that it would require an intense, complete overhaul of his shot to see his rangier percentages jump to effective levels like perhaps a young Rajon Rondo's shot did. And I certainly have no reason not to believe in his work ethic.

I like the pick. I agree with you that it's being sort of ignored that we got what normally would be considered top 3 talent with the #6 pick. Smart has a real chance at multiple All-Star appearances and absolutely is a guy I want as part of the Cs' core going forward towards a championship.

Learned a few things from this video....Smart is the real deal and will improve. The 76'ers do not play basketball....not sure what they are playing, but, it isn't basketball.

Smart uses his body really well....this will help keep him alive in his first NBA season as he gets schooled by top point guards.

The one thing that gives me hope is his dedication to defense, this is the only thing that wins championships.

A serious defensive talent. He had some really nice steals, anticipating the pass and ripping the ballhandler. Also he's just been rock solid, what you don't see in the highlights is the lack of mistakes, which really sets him apart from other rookies.

Offensively, he's clearly got a lot of work to do. Highlight vid makes him look like a decent 3pt shooter, but in reality he is shooting very badly considering the volume. I think he'll eventually be average, but he isn't talented in this regard. He clearly has the court vision to be a serious drive-and-dish threat, but he hasn't yet shown an ability to finish at the rim or to consistently penetrate the paint. I didn't see anything in the video to indicate that he has the makings of a consistent creator offensively.

I think I actually have the opposite take as a lot of people on CB. I was extremely high on him before the preseason, considered him the #2 or #3 prospect. Now, I still think he'll be a really good player, but I see a greater risk that he'll end up as a 10ppg defensive specialist, and I don't see as much potential for him to be a stud offensively. Not that I wish we'd picked someone else, but DWade he ain't.

his anticipation on defense is great and one thing that stands out to me as well is his rebounding. He gets into position at the right time and boxes out. There were a couple of instances where he was boxing out the big men. That's pretty impressive for a 6'4 guard to be blocking out a 6'10+ guy.

His shot definitely needs improving but also I believe he will. He has good form and believe he can move without the ball. If he can do what Bradley did in his sophomore season and just cut at the right time, he will be scoring 8-10 ppg in his rookie year easy.

I am excited to see him play and cannot wait for the season to start

Not sure when the show was recorded .  But, the NBA TV show I watch last night concerning preseason and upcoming season by  Barkley , Miller, Shaq , etc.....never mentioned Smarts name that I heard during the rookie discussions for who might be rookie of the year .

I was unimpressed with most of the other rookies they thought were great .    Only Wiggins and Parker impressed me more than Smart.

Once Smart perfects his three point shot, he is going to be really good.

What isn't shown in the video, and is most impressive to me is his confidence. There has been a couple of instances where he has made a glaring error and got beat, but he keeps his head up and goes to the next play, a few times making a great play only seconds later.  I like not having to worry about having a young talent who wont get in his own head when there is adversity.

Passing seems kind of average.  Not that quick.    He's strong, but there's not a lot of him penetrating inside... wonder if he focused on improving his shot this preseason instead.  His offense is weak.  Defense is really good.  Hope he continues to improve.

I think him attacking the rim is going to need some work.  I think he will need some floater and runner type shots that I've never seen him shoot before.  Didn't have to in college.

As far as passing, I actually think he's a pretty good passer.  I've been pleasantly surprised.  I don't think his court vision is really there yet but that comes with experience.

And on offense I think his IQ actually seems mostly very high to me it's just his shot selection from three I don't understand.  Otherwise he is such a heady player too.  He has his games where he makes them and I think he can be a good but streaky shooter at some point.  Probably not this year.

I have thought of him more as a SG and still do.  Very eager to see him next to Rondo.  He has played well with Avery and we know Rondo does.  We could have a very nice three guard rotation.
