Instead of a corrupt politician, I'm thinking Clay will play a corrupt pastor of a mega church.  A major crime lord, the police and politicians know he's corrupt, but won't go after him because his influence and congregation represent a major voting block who will follow Clay to the ends of the earth.  The common folk love Clay, little do they know he uses the church to launder money, produce/sell drugs, etc.
