(puff) instead of fireworks. But an okay trade.
A bunch of players, most of whom will be cut (except perhaps Powell), a TPE whose worth is not yet clear, which gives the Cs a bit of flexibility going forward, but not much. And two second round picks that will probably be in the 50s.

Its basically table scraps, but better than nothing. All in all, I was fully expecting Bogans to be cut, so DA got a bit more than I expected.
Celtics fan for life.

I would think after this offseason that Ainge has built a good relationship with the Cavs front office.

It be interesting to see what could transpire next summer if the Cavs fail to make the finals or go deep in the playoffs.

Maybe we could see a Rondo/Bradley for Kyrie/Waiters trade next summer if the Bron/Love/Kyrie experiment doesn't work.

Quick question though...how does this help with the roster jam and clearing a spot for Turner?

If anything, this has made it worse, hasn't it?

3 more unguaranteed deals and a guaranteed contract.....

It doesnt help with current roster flexibilty but his point was it helps with future trades. The TPE and 2nd round picks help make things happen.

As for the roster. Figuring that all the non-guaranteed and partial guaranteed (Murphy) contracts get cut that puts the Cs at 16 (including Turner). The roster needs to be at 15 to start the season. My guess is DA will work hard to move Bass and/or Thorton. Maybe even something as unpleasant as a Bass and Anthony for Bargnani and the rights to Thanasis Antetokounmpo? Or a 2 for 1 with Bass and Anthony for Perk?

Not shabby.  I think he could make the team perhaps.

It hasn't made it worse.  The worst that happens is you cut a guy with an expiring, but guaranteed, contract.  That may be Powell, or it may be someone else.  If it's Powell, then you've paid $600k ($500k for Powell and $100k for what's currently owed to Murphy) to get two future second-rounders and a decent-sized trade exception, and that's assuming that no one claims Powell off of waivers or is willing to give you another second-rounder for him, which someone may.  If Powell plays well enough to earn a roster spot, then presumably that means he's improved your team.  Yes, you have to cut someone who's got a guaranteed contract if you can't work out a trade, but you were already budgeted to pay that money, and so you pay an extra $500k to make your team better.

It's given the Celtics more options.  More options is not necessarily a bad thing.  More work for Ainge and Stevens, but it's not "worse".

Not sure. It can be an endless guessing game from now till  end of Bogans' contact.
Edit: Also I never said it had to be for one guy either. Can be a combination of things. Maybe a partial salary dump ect that scores a lower lottery pick.

It's always fun to play the game of what we "could/should" have done, especially when we have NO inside information on what can actually be done.

But this is twice in a row a seemingly good chip/asset gets little in return.  The Pierce TPE and now Bogans non-guarantee. Ironically both go while in Cav dealings.

We waived CJ and CB, traded Bogans that is three spots.   I read somewhere probably on C'sblog homepage that the others will likely not make the team and that only Murphy and Powell may get camp invites.

I think the Powell kid lacks toughness but he is athletic and not without skills.   I could see us send Vitor packing and keeping DP.  Who knows.

The Pierce TPE would've expired shortly, so it was use it or lose it.  And Zeller + Thornton's expiring deal + a 1st isn't a gamechanger but is hardly "little".

Ainge is gonna whip out a Green, Sully and Bass for Durant deal any second :D

I think it was little and it pretty much guaranteed, no Kevin Love and a Cavs super team. It is DA'S job to get good value in a trade if he held on too long to TPE then you can say he didn't do his job well.

Tommy point my friend.

It's okay to be a Celtics fan and yet still criticize Danny Ainge.

Looks like we are cornering the market on skinny stretch 4s who can shoot.  LOL.  Honestly not sure how Powell fits.  But at least he can pop that midrange shot and he makes it look natural.  He's still skinny though and doesn't look strong enough to bang with the big boys of the NBA yet.  I could be wrong, but Powell looks like a project defensively/bodywise who at least has a jumpshot.

Considering we turned nearly nothing [Bogans] into something.  This is just another of those Ainge moves that moves us on our way, but will not be seen as significant until we see the fruits of the trade.  IE what we actually do with that 5m+ TPE and the 2nd round picks.  Powell is just a bonus addition.  The other players in the trade will probably all be cut.

What is a TPE good for if it's not used? Nothing.
