Celtics will also get a $5.3 trade exception in trade with Cleveland. Dwight Powell has a guaranteed deal and will be in camp with Boston.

LOL and an exception?!

Its like we got part of our original trade exception back

Only caveat being now we can't combine it with any other salary, but I guess a deal like that wasn't really in the cards anyway....

Wait, he's Canadian? Okay, so we are maybe on our way to building an all NBA/Canada team.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Beneficial for both teams.

Boston: Gets a trade exception, 2 picks to add to Danny's stash, a prospect that they're taking a flier on in Dwight Powell, Erik Murphy I've heard is being evaluated by the team and may or may not go to camp, and that John Lucas III and Malcolm Thomas are being waived.

Cleveland: Now have $16 million in unguaranteed contracts next year between Bogans and Haywood which could help them make a major splash. Bogans this year could be the Ray Allen end of the bench role player type they wanted, since they likely went after Bogans due to Allen saying he isn't going to Cleveland. Plus, late 2nds aren't useful to a team like Cleveland, as the cap holds for the picks would get in the way, and they'd have to scramble to deal them on draft night.

Both teams win here imo.

Wasn't Haywood amnestied and claimed? Would think his cap number would be WAY lower.

Apparently, there's a loophole in the amnesty provision, which allows contract years that are fully non-guaranteed to remain in place.  So, for this season (and the prior two seasons) Charlotte -- and now Cleveland -- were only on the hook for around $2 million in salary.  However, next year that jumps to the full non-guaranteed value of the final year in the original contract.

It's a heck of a trade chip, potentially, and it's amazing that Cleveland got it (along with Dwight Powell) for Alonzo Gee (who was himself a non-guaranteed deal, I believe.)

So again, why did the cavs do this trade?

They could use haywoods non guarantee and the tae which is the same as haywood plus bogans non guarantee for next season . but you dont have to give up the 2nds

Sorry for all the post BUT first...

does anyone know if Powell can defend? He looks to have a muscular body for a rookie big already. His shot looks nice but I want to know about defense.

You can't combine a trade exception with anything.

Powell and Murphy are not going to make the team/go to europe/go to d league, so i wouldn't worry about it

??

The lakers gave up a player and 8.5 TAE for Lin as an example.
