We already have Sully and KO, Monroe is not a going to do anything for this team . He is not a rim protector , not a very good shooter either . He does nothing for this team. Why do we trade Rondo , who could possibly attract a big time player (Marc Gasol, Aldridge , or Hibbert ) next year with all our cap space , for Greg Monroe (a taller sully)?
And that first round pick would be mid to late 1st, do we really value that when the c's already have more than they can possibly use in the next few years ?
Yes, we have Sully and KO. They are power forwards.
Monroe is a center.
Every advanced analysis of his play shows that he is a center and that Detroit was totally misusing him as a power forward. His level of play at C has been by every measure much better than at PF. Both on offense and defense.
And as a center, he is far better than either Sullinger or Olynyk (or Zeller, for that matter).
Here is some food for thought. Detroit, last year, with either Drummond or Monroe at center,
without the other guy on the floor:
Center ORtg DRtg Net
Drummond 107.3 109.8 -2.5 points per 100 possessions
Monroe 107.8 107.9 -0.1 points per 100 possessions
The sample sizes are over 1800 possessions for both so pretty sizable.
I'm not an advocate for trading Rondo for Monroe, though. I think it makes more sense to get Monroe and add him _to_ a team with Rondo.
