What's new is this report says the celtics are also eyeing Bledsoe which is confusing. We already have AB as our 2 and we drafted Smart so I'm a little lost as to why we would want another injury prone undersized 2.

While the Celtics are trying to figure out ways to clear roster space before training camp, moving Rondo is not a high priority. First off, Rondo will be a free agent next summer and fully intends on taking the LeBron James-Carmelo Anthony tour of teams and extending the negotiation process deep into next summer. It is highly unlikely Rondo would sign an extension this season with an interested team, especially the Sacramento Kings. Second, the Celtics don?t feel pressed to deal Rondo because they are still trying to determine if he?s part of the future and they are intrigued to see him in action a full 18 months following ACL surgery.

It makes sense for Rondo but makes it more dangerous for he team to keep him past the deadline, another teams pitch and situation might make a lot more sense for Rondo. It is going to be DA's biggest decision of next season for sure.

It makes sense for Rondo but makes it more dangerous for he team to keep him past the deadline, another teams pitch and situation might make a lot more sense for Rondo. It is going to be DA's biggest decision of next season for sure.

I won't say completely that keeping him past the deadline is that big of a risk. I mean of course, we can always do a sign and trade if he decides to leave, because we can give him the biggest contract. Though, I do agree that trading him pre-deadline gives us the best choice in terms of assets coming back to us. I agree with the article in, we are in no hurry to trade him and we should watch and see how he plays post-injury.

most star free agents want to test free agency.  doesn't mean they will leave.  at the end of the day the Celtics can offer an extra year and more money.  If Boston plans on keeping him around long-term then he will stick around long-term.  It's that simple.  Celtics organization knows him best and he knows the Celtics organization best.  If Ainge wants to move him then he will either trade him during the season for a great return, work out a S/T this offseason OR let him walk, which sometimes isn't as bad as it sounds.  Boston could have some big time cash to spend next offseason.  Or they can wait until 2016 when Durant is a free agent.  At that point they could probably sign 2 max free agents to join their developing young core (Smart, Young, Sully, Bradley, KO, 2015 picks)

I think the chances of Rondo leaving Boston (so long as Ainge is willing to give a reasonable contract) aren't going to be significantly greater than the chances of Carmelo Anthony leaving New York this summer (which were non-zero, but not enough to justify trying to trade Melo for whatever you can get back).

* Dallas - star players haven't been willing to bet long term future on an aging Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk is too old. So I think this is least likely one.
* Houston - Dwight + Harden. Terrific talent but does that fit Rondo's personality? Taking backseat to two others. Glory hunter. Seems like the easy option.
* Indiana - with the cap increasing, Indy might be able to free up enough cash to get Rondo. A big three of Hibbert, Paul George and Rajon Rondo would be a heck of a trio. True team.
* New York - Phil Jackson building title contender in NYC + Carmelo Anthony.

New York and Indiana look the two most likely options to me if Rondo were to leave Boston.

I say among the teams you listed, Indiana comes out to be the best option for Rondo. I honestly think that Sac is a legit possibility for Rondo as a FA as well.

He will transform that team into a running team. Indiana are already contenders with George, with Rondo he can help as well.

I think Dallas is a bigger threat than you're giving them credit for. Dirk is getting older, yes, but Mark Cuban keeps that team relevant. Monta is a painfully underrated 2 guard, Chandler Parsons is already a good all-around player. If he takes the next step (which I expect him to under Rick Carlisle) he can be an all-star. If we were to assume that Dirk can have a Tim Duncan-like effectiveness over the next 3 seasons, then I can see him going to Dallas.
