Rondo should have been traded already.  The thing is there is not a lot out there that gives us true value for him.

Assuming that we could've traded him for his true value, whatever that is, at an earlier point.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Test the market, see what his valur is and how much is worth?

I think smart. Dont like the potential of us losing Rondo, but its a smaet move.

Haven't we known this for awhile?

Not very surprising.

There aren't any recent quotes, it's more likely than not based on Rondo's comment from months ago.

It is also as close to a given as can be under the current CBA that Rondo was going to hit free agency, even if he's staying with the C's.

would make sense for him to see what other teams would offer him so that he has an idea what he's worth in discussions with Danny

It makes sense for Rondo but makes it more dangerous for he team to keep him past the deadline, another teams pitch and situation might make a lot more sense for Rondo. It is going to be DA's biggest decision of next season for sure.
I honestly think this is a minimal risk.  He's stated he wants to stay.  even if he wanted to leave, C's should be able to work out a S&T since they can offer more money and years

Not a huge surprise. At the very worst, we can S&T him in the offseason to get him his cash and extra year on his deal and get a decent piece back.

If rondo is traded. Before the season or deadline. Do you think rondo would consider signing back us in the off season just like lester could maybe come back to the sox

Get a return for rondo, then have him re sign

With the new CBA, a sign and trade would only get Rondo 4 years for the same amount he would get as signing with another team outright.  No need for him to involve the C's except to do them a solid by making sure they get something back for him leaving.

Rondo could be the highest profile free agent to move next summer.  If we allow him to reach unrestricted free agency, I don't like our chances of keeping him.

Testing the waters in the Free Agency is like window shopping. Assessing how much value you have.

I don't see a reason for a panic trade. If he really want to leave, he can pull a Hump move where Danny can get a value via S/T once his contract expires.

There are rules in place to prevent that sort of situation, unfortunately. In fact, one of the incentives behind changing the rule was Danny trading 'Toine or someone like that and then resigning him a month later.

Was it Gary Parton we traded away and then signed after he was bought out. I think Tione was in the deal.
