I live in Kamloops, B.C., his hometown. Some lads and I went out to the local and only trendy sports bar and unbeknownst to me a friend of a friend balled with K.O. and he decided to show up.

I'm going to respect the guy and leave out any details because it was just a regular night out with the tallest person I have ever met in my life, but the one thing I will say, I wholeheartedly believe in my heart that he will lead the team in scoring this year and the side by side stats as compared to Dirk's rookie year are not just a coincidence. He has laser focus, like in any business that's something almost impossible to fake.

You can rest assured knowing he is not cocky, not ignorant, treats people with respect and loves the Boston Celtics and the direction they are going. He also thinks Brad Stevens is an absolute beauty. I didn't turn into a fanboy and ask all the questions I would have loved to ask, there were too many girls there, ha ha.

Lucky you! Great to hear Oly is nice in person. Confirms a popular belief here in Bulgaria, that the Canadians are The nicest people ever.

Could you judge if Oly is truly a 7-footer? Every time I watch him play, he looks closer to 6'10. Any other 7-footers around to use as a measuring stick?

unfortunately i think not much will change with him from last yr. to this year. i know i'm in  the minority here but his summer league play didn't impress me. he was fine when no one picked him up, but as soon as someone did it was a turnover or a brick. and that was just against kids, i can't expect him to get better against pros.

He did pretty good in Canada's friendlies this summer, and his team had some impressive results.

Playing against Croatia (Dario Saric and Ante Tomic, Spain (Ibaka and M. Gasol), Turkey (Asik) who are all preparing for the World Cup is a lot tougher than Summer League.

I like your optimism, and your conviction but I don't see it happening. he missed an awful lot of shots even as recently as Summer League. I would be curious to compare his FG% to a young Dirk.

I mean there is age and all, but Dirk sucked his rookie year. Oly was much better than Dirk in their respective rookie years, though, there was a 2 year difference, which does matter.

Dirk did make a huge jump in his second year, though. We'll see. I suspect Dirk's second year is what Olynyk maxes out as (with a little more rebounds), but who knows.

with all due respect to that league, it's not the NBA.

Often players shoot poorly because of the disorganization. Olynyk's rookie summer league was much better than his sophomore summer league because at that point he was just doing what he does well. His shot was a bit off this past summer, but that won't stay that way over the course of a season.

You make it sound like the Celtics will be the worst team in the NBA this year. I think Olynyk, Sullinger, Bradley and Smart will be good this year. I have a good feeling that Olynyk will break out, he has the tools already he just needs to work on his strength.

No, that is not a safe bet. Bottom 10 is a safe bet, sure, but not bottom 5. They even have a shot at finishing better than bottom 10, but we'll see.

We were barely in the bottom 5 this year, lost no players of note while adding some rotation-caliber guys, and most of our key players are expected to be better this season.  I don't think bottom 5 is that likely to be honest.  More likely moving up toward the middle or bottom of the lottery range.
