The simple fact that Indiana didn't bother trading Granger away while he was injured - with a degenerative knee condition, mind you - despite George's concurrent ascension should indicate that the Pacers' front office probably isn't big on knee jerk trades.  They waited until he returned, proved ineffective, and THEN traded him.

This is a reasonable point. Bird may act as he acted before. That said, how did the Granger experience work out for him? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1868724-why-the-indiana-pacers-no-longer-need-danny-granger

The proposed trade might literally be the Pacers only chance to get something of value for Paul George.

You are crazy. Just stop it. It's obvious, the pacers are in trouble and your genius trade proposal is the only path that's logical.  ::)

If we are going to try to trade with Indiana, it shouldn't be to take their injured star player (who they wouldn't deal anyway.)

It should be to acquire the two remaining good players they have left in David West and Roy Hibbert.

Puts us back to being competitive and Indiana tanks for a year, and comes back next season with a healthy Paul George, a lotto pick and cap space.

I know the Pacers probably aren't going to throw in the towel on the upcoming season but if I were DA, I would at least call Bird and make the following offer. Worse that happens is he hangs up.

Celts get:
Roy Hibbert
David West
George Hill

Pacers get:
Jeff Green
Joel Anthony (expiring)
Brandon Bass (expiring)
Kelly Olynyk (young building block)
Marcus Thornton (expiring)
2015 Celtics 1st rounder and 2016 Brooklyn 1st rounder.

Lol.

Well, no 32 did us a solid back in '07.

Maybe, no 33 can do the same in '14.

Before he hurt his leg playing for his country, Paul George had been talked about as a sleazy guy. There is talk that he hooked up with Hibberts gf, he also cheated on Doc's daughter Cali....with a stripper who he got pregnant. There was also the catfish incident, where he sent very dnihnh pictures to a dude pretending to be a chick online.

For all the crap Lance got in Indy, it was Paul George who was the sleezeball.
Please if you want to learn more about Paul George type in google :Paul George women

Bird got Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen for Granger and a late second rounder. Turner ended up not panning out, but he didn't just trade Granger away for free, especially when you consider that he's re-signed Allen.

If Bird can get a bust and a role player on expiring contracts for a washed-up Granger, I doubt he's worried about getting a paltry return for George. In fact, I'd imagine his primary concern is seeing George return to full health, so that he doesn't have to trade him for the reasons LooseCannon mentioned.

I would absolutely do it,  no brainer.  With Smart we already have a legit staying PG for the future,  and Hill would give us a fantastic backup PG for years to come.   Given that we already have the risk of Rondo leaving us for nothing next year,  this largely offsets the risk of taking George. If it doesn't work out you've really not given up that much,  because we all have a young PG with future all star potential in Smart.

A roster of Smart/Bradley/George/Sully/Zeller (or Olynyk) has a ton of potential.

On the flipside I seriously doubt Indiana would do it...Derek Rose has been the NBA equivalent of a corpse for 2-3 seasons now and Chicago still haven't traded him away.   Portand held on to Oden for years before eventually giving up on him,  and held on to Roy until the day he retired.

Teams have a tendancy to hold on to guys like George.

But if the deal did come up,  I don't think DA would need to think very much.  To be honest a Rondo/Green/West/Hibbert starting lineup would be pretty solid of they can find a Guard that is worth of starters minutes.   Maybe Boston could throw Thornton in there too and take back a pick.

The Pacers are not going to trade away their 24-year-old franchise cornerstone just because he broke his leg.

That's not an accurate representation of the issue. The Pacers have to make a decision about he direction of their franchise now that their cornerstone is out for a year or two, and may never be he same again. They were built to contend last year and in the next two years, now that's out the window. Hibbert and West will likely leave, leaving them with an uncertainty in George, a mediocre player in Hill, and that's it.

Btw, if George was this supposed top 10 superstar , the Pacers, with the talent they had last year around him, wouldn't have sucked so badly.

How did the George injury get stretched to two years now? Seems reasonable to expect that he'll be recovered in 15 months, for the start of the next season, and back to full capability for the playoffs almost six months after that.

I have no idea.

Last I heard, George should be back in plenty of time for the 15-16 season.

Not sure where the 2 year recovery prognosis came from.

Sure, he will be back in a year , but he won't be playing like Paul George for another year after that.
