This Just in:

With the acquisition of Evan Turner to replace Jeff Green in the starting line-up, Celtic GM Danny Ainge finally makes the fireworks expected by Celtic Nation.

Thursday, July 24, the Celtics made a block buster trade to finally acquire the power forward that they have been courting all summer.  Kevin Love is moving from Minnesota is a deal that send Jeff Green, Keith Bogans and Chris Johnson to Detroit and Josh Smith, Kelly Olynyk and an undisclosed number of first round draft picks from the Celtics over the next two years.

Detroit has been having a problem getting a taker for a sign and trade deal for Monroe and this. deal allows them to resign their valued power forward and correct the mistake they made last year trying to insert a power forward into a small forward spot in the rotation.  The trade for Green should immediately bear fruit.

Minnesota has been trying to get the best package for Kevin Love all summer rather than lose him to free agency.  Josh Smith still has all the talent that he had before Detroit's disasterous experiment to play him at small forward.  Kelly Olynyk is a promising stretch forward/center on the verge of breaking out.  Several first round draft picks over the next few years incentivize this trade.

For a second I was going to ask for "source" but then I see the date.  Never mind.

Thank you for bolding the date.  It saved me a google.

Don't mind this move one bit...Ainge is in the business of acquiring talent/assets right now and continues to compile as much as he can for as little as he can...Turner, in the very least can be the 6th man who scores and at best he could replace Green who could be shipped out in a deal soon.

There's no denying that this team is better than it was, when the season ended...No, we haven't seen "fireworks" to this point, but what we have seen is solid basketball moves to increase this team's depth and versatility. All the while, collecting a war chest of assets to take advantage of any opportunities that could present themselves.

We'll see at least 30 of these nights as opposed to Jeff Green's five:

If so, that would count as the best FA signing under Ainge.

But, as we've seen in Indiana, Turner doesn't work well coming off the bench in that type of role. Maybe Brad Stevens can find a way to help Stevens adjust. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see more rumors of Jeff Green being on the trade block.

I am happy we bought ow on a guy that can have a solid year. Very good negotiating skills, but where were these skills when we negotiated with Avery's agent?

So we got a guy with talent who hasn't made the most of it for short money.

Upside > downside.

Deadspin seems to love the move.

After a season in which their bottomed-out squad of plucky nobodies occasionally showed admirable spunk under first-year coach Brad Stevens, the Boston Celtics evidently decided they'd had enough of this not-being-hated-by-literally-everyone crap, and went out and signed ball-pounding avatar of hopelessness Evan Turner, whose game is basketball's version of a wet fart.

If the phrase "Evan Turner, Boston Celtic" doesn't make you want to puke and cry and raze the Northeast of all life, you're probably Danny Ainge. The rest of us will be over here retching into our cupped elbows.

Lots of hate for Turner, and even more hate for the Celts in the comments underneath.
I kept on reading those comments, and it eventually reached the point where people were discussing if Rondo was handsome or not. I laughed.

Turner's been my favorite player since his college days, so to have him on my favorite team is awesome right now lol.

Bought league pass just to watch his games these past years. Honestly, the whole locker room thing is so overblown. He's good friends with almost everybody he's played with. Never heard anything in PHI about him. The one instance with Lance, I mean come on, it's Lance....

Inconsistent I'll admit, but he works extremely hard, and has gotten better every season.

I would be surprised if this deal went for two years with the second year being non guaranteed, in order to give them an extra trade chip next year.

The C's saw good value in the signing of Turner. He has upside, if he plays well then it adds value to our team. If he doesn't then he's signed for short money.

As to Monroe, I'm a big fan but it was reported he was offered four years $48 MM and he wants more which is why he hasn't signed. I think the only way he accepts a sign and trade here would be if it was for closer to $56-$60 MM.

Monroe is absolutely a center. He has put up better numbers playing the five and his teams have performed better when he plays the 5. His problem defensively is his lack of quickness and lift, this problem is only exacerbated when he plays the 4.

With the drafting of Marcus Smart and signing of Evan Turner, the Celtics have quickly added 2 ball handling, shot creators with a lot of upside.

Last year at any given time our second best ball handling, shot creator was either Gerald Wallace or Phil Pressey.

This is a nice upgrade in an area of need.

^^^this. This guy gets it. I was afraid of our offensive state but with Smart, Thornton and Turner all being versatile scorers its looking a lot better

As far as rotational players that ended the season we are more versatile, and more deep gaining Turner, Thornton, Zeller, and Smart (don't think Toung is ready yet) while losing Humphries and Bayless.

Smart > Bayless
Zeller > Humphries (for positional need even if Humphries is the better player now).
Thorton and Turner providing scoring punch off the bench.

Wouldn't be surprised if the next move is to pull off a 2 or 3 for 1 trade involving Bass and/or Green plus the unguaranteed contracts.  Maybe another 3 team deal.

That's funny because literally my first thought when I read "Report: Celtics Signing Evan Turner" was *puke*.  Especially when I envisioned him on the court with Phil Pressey and Gerald Wallace.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
