Deadspin seems to love the move.

After a season in which their bottomed-out squad of plucky nobodies occasionally showed admirable spunk under first-year coach Brad Stevens, the Boston Celtics evidently decided they'd had enough of this not-being-hated-by-literally-everyone crap, and went out and signed ball-pounding avatar of hopelessness Evan Turner, whose game is basketball's version of a wet fart.

If the phrase "Evan Turner, Boston Celtic" doesn't make you want to puke and cry and raze the Northeast of all life, you're probably Danny Ainge. The rest of us will be over here retching into our cupped elbows.

Lots of hate for Turner, and even more hate for the Celts in the comments underneath.

Turner is inconsistent, but he is talented. The Celtics lack talent right now, Turner should help them.

Wow why so much hate for the C's, lol?

Are these Laker fans? Gotta be.

Love the ET signing, though.

Not that they play the same position but when was pressey contract fully guaranteed?
Turner could eat into pressey being with team or pt as he has a good handle as a point forward.
???  is jeff green and sully and draft pick(s) coming in deal??

ok, thanks
so wallace can't be moved without giving up assets so he isn't going anywhere
jeff green, inconsistent,  good offensive player, good-very good defender, below average passer and rebounder
evan turner, inconsistent, good offensive player but not that efficient, average defender, good passer
hmmmm

Monroe is a center who is not very good defensively.

I don't get the hate on Monroe.  He just turned 24.  To say he's not very good at something is a little overblown.  Does he not block shots ?  Not really.  Blocking shots doesn't mean you're not very good defensively.  The game is far more than blocking shots at the Center position.  Sure, having an intimidator in there would be nice, but again, doesn't mean he's weak defensively.

For me, he's a rising star and still developing his game.  He thrives around the rim and provides solid rebounding from the Center position.
There are centers that don't block shots who are very good defensively (see Omer Asik). Monroe is not very good by just about any metric, raw or advanced.

In terms of rebounding, he's very similar to Zeller. In fact, given that we have Zeller, Monroe is probably redundant.

No, he's not.

Monroe is a good player and is a better player than Zeller is.

With the acquisition of Evan Turner to replace Jeff Green in the starting line-up, Celtic GM Danny Ainge finally makes the fireworks expected by Celtic Nation.

Thursday, July 24, the Celtics made a block buster trade to finally acquire the power forward that they have been courting all summer.  Kevin Love is moving from Minnesota is a deal that send Jeff Green, Keith Bogans and Chris Johnson to Detroit and Josh Smith, Kelly Olynyk and an undisclosed number of first round draft picks from the Celtics over the next two years.

Detroit has been having a problem getting a taker for a sign and trade deal for Monroe and this. deal allows them to resign their valued power forward and correct the mistake they made last year trying to insert a power forward into a small forward spot in the rotation.  The trade for Green should immediately bear fruit.

Minnesota has been trying to get the best package for Kevin Love all summer rather than lose him to free agency.  Josh Smith still has all the talent that he had before Detroit's disasterous experiment to play him at small forward.  Kelly Olynyk is a promising stretch forward/center on the verge of breaking out.  Several first round draft picks over the next few years incentivize this trade.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I don't like Turner's game at all but this is a solid move if we are getting him for a 'portion' of the MLE. I'd try and etch him to a 2 year, $8-9 million dollar deal.($4m per year).
He's like Bayless in that he's high usage, average-below average FG% and his shot selection makes you want to pull your hair out. But his trade value and overall game are far superior to Bayless'. Turner's probably under rated when you consider his defensive abilities (when he's not exhausted from jacking up 15 shots in a half).

If the rumors about the Wolves being interested in him are true then this adds a cherry on top and is yet another very sweet option for the Wolves in moving Love- particularly now that it looks like Gilbert is refusing to send out Andrew Wiggins in any Love deal.

If we can move Green for someone like Monroe in a sign and trade and wait till August/September (when they can be traded again) we could offer them a very nice package of:

Turner
Monroe
Thornton
Olynyk
2 first round picks.

They can add/subtract any pieces they want up to a reasonable level.

Either way we've got a nice piece to build up some value in, who won't add more than 2-3 wins for the season, and who's going to be extremely cheap/good value.

For someone who hates Evan 'Wet Blanket' Turner as much as I do, I'm surprised at how good a move this was. Very solid.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

If he cant contribute or accept his role, BS will cement Evan Turner's legacy as a monolith on the Celtics bench;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

For a second I was going to ask for "source" but then I see the date.  Never mind.

They are going to start Rondo, Pressey, Bradley, and Mark Smart - and then start Evan Turner at center. You're probably wondering about depth now - but fortunately we can get Marcus Thornton off the bench at "power forward" and can sub in Chris Babb and James Young at center when Turner gets tired.
