I'd take Exum over Smart.  Summer league doesn't really mean anything.  Exum has star potential.  I haven't seen any experts suggesting Smart has that kind of ceiling.

Smart is and was always going to be a pretty good NBA player. All star? maybe not but he isnt going to be a scrub by any means. His competitiveness and defence alone will keep him in the league.

Exum just has the potential to be huge. NBA is growing massively here in Australia and Exum is now the beacon where alot of fans will flock to. With others such as Ben Simmons and Thon Maker entering in the next couple of years and the success of Patty Mills in the championship NBA is only going to get bigger here. So there is the marketing aspect as well.

Exum in 3-4 years will be an All star imho. He will get used to the league, add some size. The kid is a tough as nails worker. Depressing thing is, he will end up a Laker. Just watch.

these players are coming in so young and unless physically and mentally mature i fear for them-from injuries ,ego and emotions-durability a big factor i was recruited by u conn but suffered an knee inury never to play again at 18,my son with big vertical suffered ruptured ligaments and broken ankle in quarterfinals english national tournament at 18 coming down on someones foot not to play again ,his teamate  at 17 an all england player another leaper similar injuries screws in ankle took two years to get back--i look at smarts ability to initiate contact and his balance  both offensively anddefensivily and his mental toughness and background ,his immediate impact and leadership-and he may or may not be a all star but he will survive and lead--hopefully

Smarts ceiling is Rondo which is a good role player on a contender. Exum's potential is a multi time all star who can transcend his position. Such as a Chris Paul. That coin flip will haunt the Celtics for decades.

Im with you.

Can I see Smart having a better career than Exum? Yes.

Is it possible that 5 years from now these guys wouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence because Exum is an MVP candidate? Yep.

Exum has all kinds of tools and talent although unrealized at this point.

I'm a Smart fan...

- I understand the Hype around Exum...he's got the size and clearly has a decent first step, I wouldn't however call him a freak athlete...he's not.

- He has a much greater bust potential than Smart

- Hype vs. what we know....he struggles against size and strength...he is supposed to have a developed O game that should have been on display in SL but has not looked good...5pts yesterday.

- You can watch highlights all you want....he has not looked good (it is just SL though)

- Wouldn't compete against guards in predraft workouts...I understand the economics but Smart had a similar risk and came to work regardless.

Smart would have been a top 2 pick last year and some thought he could be picked by Orlando over Exum this year.  He has a developed D game that will get him on the court early...appears to be a better passer, is a better rebounder, and has a more durable frame.  I don't get the trend on this forum to think Smart has a low ceiling...it's ridiculous.

Don't just take my opinion....

I know the Exum fanboys will have a counter to every point...Summer League doesn't matter...Smart has a mans body wait until Exum develops...he was hurt in the under 19 tourney....he didn't need to match up in workouts.....

I just present facts.

I really do believe Smart has potential to be a perennial all-star. Its hard for me to say Deron Williams was a super star, even though he was once tied with cp3, but I think Smart can be better.

I think its because we have Rondo (for now) and they are viewing him as a sg. Exum seems more viable as an off guard . Thats just my opinion. I get that Exum is the man of mystery, but Smart competed and loves to work, Exum hid.

Not sure Smart will ever be the shooter Williams was/is, though.

Dante Exum is destined to be a star in the NBA even though he has struggled mightily against fellow Summer Leaguers?  I'm not convinced.

The kid has quite the cult following, though.

From a guy that watched every Marcus game, this dude's ceiling is just as high as Exum. The only PGs with similar athletic combine numbers are John Wall, Westbrook, and Rose. Compare them and see.
As for exum, i'm a semi-fan but i'm not gonna praise a guy yet for ducking out on college competition to raise his stock.
