Lakers pick up Boozer off waivers

Smart signing. Boozer immediately becomes far and away the best big man on the Lakers.

The Lalers desperately needed someone with some offensive skills. Jordan Hill, Ed Davis and Julius Randle wasn't going to work. Too many similar / combined limitations on the offensive end of the floor. They need someone with Boozer's jump-shooting and passing ability.

It'll stunt Julius Randle's growth since Boozer will takeup a lot of minutes.

If Randle can't earn those minutes by outplaying Boozer, he shouldn't get them.

I agree. Randle will, do just fine with 20 minutes per game. And it will be better for his development to earn a starting spot. Expectations are lowered as well.

Now that they have Boozer I actually kind of Like what LA is doing to ride out Kobe's procession into retirement.

If Nash can play half a season, and Kobe can play at a Jordan on the Wizards level, this could be a surprising team.

Oh heck no playoffs in the West. 35 wins is possible only if Bryant is healthy. And their future is terrible for the next 2 years. Then we will see if they can lure the big stars when they have room for a team up super team.

The Celtics have a bright future ahead. They have some rough stones that could become diamonds, as well as some nice role players. Plus the stack of draft picks. But i dont see them winning more than 32 games next year. The East got better in the middle.

Philly and Milwaukee still stink. Miami will drop to 45 wins. Brooklyn is all about the health of Lopez. And then all the other East teams are doing something to improve their teams.

Consider me unimpressed with the improvements of the Knicks and Detroit (whom you left out.)  Not saying I think the Celtics will make the playoffs, but I think a finish 8th to 10th in the conference is reasonable this year, pending future summer and in-season moves, of course.

BTW, isn't the Lakers first round pick owed to Phoenix next year, from the Steve Nash deal?  Top 5 protected I think.  I could be wrong, but I think that's the case.

Detroit still has to resolve Greg Monroe. But i think Stan van gundy alone coaches them to 5 extra wins. They have added desperately needed shooters with Meeks, Butler and Augustin. They also quietly picked up a backup center in Aaron Grey.

The Knicks invigorated their motivation, desire to win, and ability to be taken seriously by bringing in Phil Jackson at the end of last season and then Resigning Anthony. I like the flip of Felton for Calderon. I like the drafting of Early. If Shumpert is healthy and Hardaway continues to improve, they will have a pretty balanced team, good enough to be better than the Celtics. I predict 35 wins and perhaps the 8th seed for the Knicks.
