A couple months ago there was a report that Rondo was going to ask for the max on his next contract. A large majority of people here were of the opinion that the Celtics definitely should not offer him that.

But what would it take for you guys to change your mind about offering Rondo the max this year?

For me if he were to improve on his 2012-13 stat line slightly he would be deserving of it, something along the lines of 15pts / 12ast / 6reb while shooting .500 and .350 from behind the arc.

And he'd have to bring me the head of Simmons on a plate.

He gets 10% ownership of the team for the Simmons thing, right?

I don't care about stats, he has proven enough there. I want to see him get to the rim with the same quickness and finishing ability he showed pre injury.

Depends on if its a team option or a player option.

Night in night out effort. The steals, the drives, the tough D . .. playing smart with the ball and acting like a leader ALL the time. No disappearing acts. He is our captain!

16 pts / 10 ast / 5 rbs / 1.8 stl: .450 / .350 / .750

For me, I would take a slight decrease in assists (8-10), rebounds can stay where they are,  but I would have to see scoring in the 16-20 pt range, with a marked increase in free throw attempts (to show he is putting pressure on the D) and improved percentage on all three shooting stats (FG%, FT%, and 3PT%).

An honestly, I would also like to see better media savvy.

Rondo's a guy where I don't think the exact numbers matter.  So, I have a different question.

If Rondo is clearly the best player on the team, how well do the Celtics have to be for him to look like a max-level player.  If he is the consensus team MVP, the Celtics win the division, and they make it to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing in 6 or 7 games, can you imagine him not being worth the max?

The head's kind of a dealbreaker, gotta be honest.

If the Celtics make the playoffs because of his play (so, not just because the team improved; he needs to carry them or show that he could have carried them if they had needed it), then he'd be worth it
I'm bitter.

You mean like 20 mil a year?

Chris Paul makes 18.6 mil, right?  He averaged 19 points, 11 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 47%/37%/86%

Something like that is probably worth max.

Rondo averaged 12 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 40%/29%/63%  ... Pretty good, but probably not worth the max.

Doing his pre-injury thing and playing in 70+ games.   A playoff berth would be nice too but I'm not holding my breath on that aspect.

He's gotten better with the media. He's probably never going to be a media darling ala Ray Allen and I'm more than fine with that (we'll never have to question whether or not he's being genuine). But I think the media has a perception of him that he has no control over at this point. I don't think the media image of him is ever going to get to a level good enough to be called savvy.

For the original question. A realistic stat line for him moving forward - to me at least - would 15.5ppg, 11apg, 6rpg, 2spg on 47%/30%/70% shooting. I don't think he's ever going to morph into a 20pt scorer (only 4 PGs scored 20 or more last year - Curry, Irving, Lillard, and IT), that's just not his game. His scoring high is 13.7ppg, so I think with a little more scoring responsibility he can get into the 16ppg territory. 17ppg if we want to be adventurous.
