Right now it looks like Cleveland is unwilling to give us Wiggins in any deal for Kevin Love.  Still, Love has a lot of power in determining where he will go.  So he could insist that he won't re-sign with any other team except Cleveland which would bring down the asking price Minny could get for him elsewhere.

The Celts' can help their case similarly if they can convince Kevin Love to want to come to Boston.  Right now all they have is Rondo, maybe Jeff Green, and a bunch of young prospects.  That's not too appealing if I'm Kevin Love.  It's the same way KG may have looked at the Celts in 2007 when all they had was Paul Pierce and bunch of picks/young players.  But when Danny traded for Ray Allen it made the C's look a lot more appealing and KG agreed to re-sign with the Celts if he were traded there.

So who could be the new "Ray Allen" for the 2014 Celtics?  Either a SG, SF, or C?  It needs to be someone that Danny could trade for that has been and still could be at least an All Star.  Roy Hibbert is an All Star (reserve) that could be looking for a new home?  Although he is frustratingly inconsistent.  Marc Gasol could be had, if the Grizzlies believe he may leave in free agency.  If the Celts offered Olynyk, cap fodder, and the Clippers/Cavaliers 1st that might do it.  And it would still leave plenty of assets to make a trade for Love... if Love pressed to go to the C's.

There's really no one out there that fits the qualifications of having been an All-Star over the past four seasons that is on a team that would be willing to deal them.  Every team that has had an All-Star over the past four years was a playoff team last year except for the Knicks and the Suns.  So all of those teams are very likely going to want to hold on to their stars, unlike the Sonics back in 2007 who were more than willing to trade Ray Allen and go on a youth movement.

The premise of this thread is wrong.

The C's need a new "Al Jefferson" the asset that the Wolves want for their all-star PF. Love has already indicated he'd accept a trade here because of Rondo/Ainge.

^both are correct. We need both an "al Jefferson" asset and a ray Allen type magnet.

I just don't see this happening.

I think Kevin Love could be the Ray Allen to Marc Gasol's Kevin Garnett during the 2015 off season.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

He's already indicated he'd be agreeable to committing long term to Boston, not sure what else he can do.

Once again he's not signing an "extension" anywhere, most his reps will let him do is opt into an additional year of his deal and become a FA slightly later.

Man is the talent on those swapped massively though.

It doesn't look like Kevin Love is willing to force his way anywhere in particular otherwise he would have done it by now. So I don't think finding a new "Ray Allen" is necessary to acquiring K-Love in a trade.

I do however think it is paramount to acquiring a top tier FA next summer.

I just really wonder if Ainge is going to make a run of it next summer or summer '16.

I'm sure fans wouldn't exactly be pleased to hear it but I could see this thing getting dragged out farther.

We'll be asking  "maybe next summer" for the next decade.

I don't think it happens. Rondo is likely gone in that scenario at which point why would a FA come here?

Unless the young talent blows up beyond all reasonable expectations....

That would certainly be the risk you carry if you decide to focus on summer '16, isn't it?

I don't think that can be the plan right now at least.

If Rondo signs a good deal to stay with the C's you can pivot to that if you cannot land another high level FA I guess. (Rockets just did that by letting Parsons go)

rondo is gone. Its going to happen just a matter of time. The Kevin love talks have been exploratory and never got serious. Minnesota wants nothing to do with us after the KG thing. Were gonna tank for the next decade.

Yeah, i don't think a decision has been made one way or another.  Although we can certainly abandon summer '14 for fireworks outside of the Love pipe dream.

I see it being more of a wait/see/adjust approach starting up again with the '15 trade deadline.  Rondo will be the first domino that will really dictate everything the next few seasons.

Part of me has to think Danny does have that gleam in the eye dreams about KD in '16, though.

Got any proof that Rondo is gone after next summer?
