Assume for a moment that Marcus is a total dud like Ron Mercer.  Which of the guys we passed on are most likely to make our blood boil for years to come because we could have picked him? This question only pertains to the 6th pick, not the 17th.

Randle, mainly because he was RIGHT THERE for the taking and was good value.  Hope this doesn't come back to bite us.

If randle starts dropping 20 and 10 every night, it's going to be annoying.

Just annoying? ;)

I think Randle as well.

Doug killed it in summer league though but so did KO last year and we all know how that went.

I don't really have a strong opinion, and probably won't bother Monday morning quarterbacking it if Smart turns out to be a fungible combo-guard, but I will say this: This may be the first time in Ainge's 11 years and counting that he has the chance to look really stupid at the top of the draft. I'm with the majority here that give Ainge an 'A' for his overall picks in his tenure, but it seems he's usually been in a position where he can't lose in some people's eyes. He's been lauded to nauseating levels over getting Jefferson at 15 and Rondo in the 20's, but for every good player that has gotten by us, there's usually been the "23 other teams passed on him!" response.

If Randle turns out to be an all-star and Smart turns out to be a first guard off the bench, I'm not sure there will be a defensible reason for blowing that one. Even people who follow college ball casually know who that guy is.

I mainly just find it amusing that this is the first time in his tenure that he'll be tested in this way.

Wanted to buy a second for either Jordan Clarkson (Lakers) or Nick Johnson (Rockets)

I though McBuckets was the best college player I saw all year so I'd have to say him.

I personally think Smart is going to be better than Randle, so I'm not worried about that.

I think it was a mistake that Boston didn't take Kyle Anderson at 17. Honestly, I am shocked he fell all the way to the Spurs. I think a lot of teams, including Boston, are going to regret not having picked him.

Ainge on taking Young over Harris:

Quote
Ainge said he gave "strong considerations" to Gary Harris at No. 17, but ranked Young in his top 10 and felt excited that the Kentucky product was available.

"Love Gary Harris," Ainge said. "But we probably did have a lot of guards under 6-3 at that point. We needed to add shooting for sure and we needed a little size in shooting. But we did have Gary Harris ranked high as well, and Gary is a terrific player and will have a good career."

One difference between Harris and Young: Ainge believes the latter can play small forward. With Smart, Rajon Rondo and maybe Avery Bradley (he's a restricted free agent) already in the backcourt, Harris would not have been a great fit.

I think Randle has way more bust potential than Smart... Smarts already shown amazing defensive instinct, he was taking over some of those SL games defensively. His shot shows a lot of potential for improvement. Has a great work ethic. I think he turns out to be an excellent player.

Randle, while he could end up being good, lacks a scoring ability outside of bully ball in the paint, which will be harder to come by in the NBA. Awful defender... it's scary how bad he is. Sully looks like KG compared to him. I really don't seem him being anything special (maybe David Lee ceiling) and would have been disappointed with the pick. Glad we took Smart.

At 17 I'm sure it's been said and it's too early to tell esp since Young hasn't played a game yet but I wanted Harris over Young though was happy we got either at 17. Young could be great though so we'll see what happens

Smart allows us to trade Rondo, and I am sick of too small SGs.

It's funny people are already trashing Young and he hasn't played a minute yet.

Randle's talented but he kind of annoyed me in his draft interview. He gave the sense that he was entitled to something. He's a rookie. He's not entitled to anything, but he'l fit in perfectly with Kobe. No interest in his attitude here in Boston.

Become Legendary.

I was big on Smart, Noah Vonleh and Randle. Noah was my fav but I was ALWAYS very weary about how he gained all that muscle over just one summer.

Randle did not have the short arms many thought, actually longer than Blake Griffin. And he loved ball, was a winner, and a bull.

But Smart grew on me. I fell in love with his measurements and then his stats and defense. The biggest thing for me was his shot. I looked at his shot as a positive, it was really only a dip problem, not mechanical . So I thought he would be a steal.

To be honest I was kinda hoping we would trade Rondo draft night to get another pick 7-9.

I'm going to go with none. I wanted these picks traded for either more assets or anything to put us into contention this year. Smart has averaged out pretty good, awful do percentage though.  I loved Randle, in the tournament he showed he's the real deal but I agree with he has more bust potential. Randle and sully are to closely matched. Unless you guarantee me Randle turns into Zack Randolph I'd avoided him. I think smart has potential to be poor man's Westbrook

All guys who we didn't pass on, that's not what the poster meant.  I believe he meant guys we could've drafted but passed on.
