The way I remember it was that we only had to convince KG to come to town--the Wolves weren't the issue. That's completely the opposite of now (on the face of things) where it seems Love would gladly come here and we have to convince Flip, who seems like a pretty good natured, level headed guy, so I don't know what the holdup is. Wait. Nevermind that's the opposite, he only hires his family and friends and wants to trade for or draft players who are represents by his BFF Bill Duffy.

I want love in boston but minn./flip are unrealistic in what they want in return imo. I understand they that they don't want to give him up for nothing but it is what it is. by keeping love they're hurting themselves way more than settling on a deal. they are deluding themselves if they think they're making the playoffs. realistically they'll end up having to deal him by the deadline and by that time imo they should get far less than any offer they received over the summer.

and i'll also point out that for all this talk from Minn. that "they're inclined to keep Love and try to make the playoffs this season". well, they're really being active this off-season in acquiring talent to surround Love with to improve a team that was horrible and missed the playoffs this past season. i'm sure Love is convinced this team wants to win and that they want him beyond this season.

like I said I want love in boston but it's at the point where I almost don't want him because we have to give these idiots something in return.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
A few days before the NBA draft in 2007, Kevin Garnett and his agent squashed an already agreed upon trade between the T Wolves and Celtics, because they had 'no interest what so ever' in going to the Celtics. KG's agent said 'the Boston trade is not happening'.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2912075

That was 3 or 4 days before the NBA draft in 2007.

A few days later on draft night 2007, and Danny pulled off the Ray Allen trade.
People often think we drafted Green, but the trade was actually announced before Durant was even selected by the Sonics.
  Presti wanted to build a defensive foundation from the ground up, and Ainge was happy to send him the 5th pick, Delonte and Wally Szerbs for a 7 time All Star.

That got the ball rolling for bigger things to come...
Still took almost a month before they pulled it off.

Problem now is that we can't entice the player with another star- the player seems happy to come to Boston. It's the GM and the owner making sure they get the best possible value back by waiting till Lebron, Bosh, Carmelo etc have all signed new deals- that's when Flip hopes the 'pretender contenders' will hopefully fight for Love.

I don't think it's about saving face for Minny as some people say. They let KG go and got a great player in Al Jeff back, the injury to Big AL was an unfortunate stain on the whole saga.
They just want to extract enough desperation out of as many teams as possible which is exactly what Ainge would do too.

I'm excited because I still think we have a pretty good shot at pulling off this deal. Flip's just playing extremely conservatively, seems that Danny is too. Flip's just gotta hope he doesn't miss his opportunity to get that extra piece or two from Ainge or the Warriors, Rockets, Bulls etc...

I just hope these max free agent clowns make up their mind soon because it's boring waiting around for some potential fireworks.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I remember freaking out thinking we had traded up to the 2.

the problem isnt love wanting to come here, as all reports indicate this is one of the destinations he would be happy to come to.

the problem is that Flip wants established role players for K-Love and the celtics cant offer that. which is why Ainge is likely trying to nab a player from a 3rd team to offer up to minnesota.

granted, I dont understand Flip's line of thinking. If he wants to strive to tbe the 10th, 11th best team in the west

that's why I'd rather just forget the deal.

when you get into a discussion with an idiot, people watching can't tell who the idiot is.

Flip doesn't want established role players, he wants one player--Klay Thompson, son of his fried Mychal and client of his buddy Bill Duffy. Flip isn't even bothering to kick the tires on any restricted free agents in case they could work out a sign and trade. He should be all over Parsons, Heyward and Monroe gauging their interest in a huge contract to sign with Minny while the team receives compensation from the Cs and Love could come to Boston, but he's an idiot and I guess hates Danny and Boston enough to not do something like that.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

I honestly don't think I can take much more of this "NOTHING" that is happening---if the Love deal does not happen---I'm gonna lose my freaking mind...I swear.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Our team as currently constructed may get a top three draft pick.

No, because:

1. the NBA and luck both hate us.. and somehow loves Cleveland.
2. we play too hard and our coach is too good to be bad enough for #3; or is it that we're just bad and the other teams like Philly somehow manage to be so much worst? either case, our team this year will be better than last (same team essentially + more developed and healthier players + rookies) and we'll somehow manage to get between the 7-10 range.

Become Legendary.

More like Summer 2003.

Rondo = Pierce
Smart = Banks
Young = Kedrick Brown
Oly = Jiri Welsch
Green = Ricky Davis
Bass = Mark Blount
Sully = Perk or Brandon hunter

Give it 4 more years we might have the pieces to make a big splash.

I am not high on Oly by any stretch, but based on their performances up to this point seems like a really insulting comparison of Jiri to Oly. Coming into the season you mentioned Jiri had averaged 1.6 points in 6 minutes a game for the warriors. Oly's 8.6 points as a rookie and 46% fg shooting nearly equal or surpass welsch's career high. How we eventually got a first round pick for that bum was one of the greater rip offs we have pulled in a small trade.

ugh. but, yeah.

I'm not disagreeing but I really hope Smart isn't Banks 2.0...I had such high hopes for Smart...very very high hopes. For some reason, I see him as a perennial all-star
I'd guess Smart will have a better career than Banks.  Banks was the #13 pick and came from a weak program, right?  It's just really easy to compare them right now, because Banks was hyped for the same reasons... and I specifically remember him showing up with the same level of "I got this" over confidence.   Hard to believe now, but at the time there was a large chunk of Celtic fans who thought Banks was the future.  Nasty defender... pitbull size (same as Smart), lightning quick...

I once heard a Celtic fan refer to Jiri Welsch as a 6'7 Larry Bird.  The young fella averaged 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals, 43%/38%/74% that season... I'm keeping the parallel even if the timing is slightly off.   I stand by it... this is more like 2003 than 2007.  Ainge having just blown up the team and starting his tedious rebuild.   And if we bring back Pierce in a couple years, maybe he can wear #3434 and miraclejohan can write a song about it.

Yeah, we are not close to 2007.   I agree, we may not have hit bottom either folks.  I too, think that we are not getting love and that we are still in the stockpiling talent part of the rebuild.  That may mean Rondo is gone.

While we have some assets, I'm not sure the dance partners are out there right now, which is the main thing, and I don't think we have any prospects that have a strong enough upward trajectory to bring in a star.

Though I just don't see enough dance partners out there trading away stars right now.

Trade for Love, TPE & picks for Stephenson, keep Green, Bradley, Hump, & Anthony?
