DA has been too quiet so far and no real rumors being floated around. This is usually when DA strikes...the calm before the storm. Once this whole LeBron/Melo/Bosh thing shakes out I think DA will pull something out of his hat. The uneven roster construction, promise of "fireworks", available assets, Love still available, and of course the silence all leads me to believe (hope) that something big is coming and the Stephenson rumor may be the first clue.

I remember back in 2007 I thought the KG thing was dead and then it happened. The "I remember" commercial perfectly captured the way I felt when I heard of the trade. The similarities are striking. Starting to feel like 2007 all over again.

*We tried and initially failed in trading for a franchise PF from Minnesota
*We have a young PF, young assets, and draft picks to offer in a trade
*Trying to build around an established all star in his prime years (Rondo). Back in 2007 it was Pierce
*Coming off a year where we lost 50+ games
*Like 2007 the Spurs just won the title by beating LeBron James. OK this has nothing to do with the Celtics but just thought it was interesting.

More like Summer 2003.

Rondo = Pierce
Smart = Banks
Young = Kedrick Brown
Oly = Jiri Welsch
Green = Ricky Davis
Bass = Mark Blount
Sully = Perk or Brandon hunter

Give it 4 more years we might have the pieces to make a big splash.

It's probably unfair to Smart to compare him to Banks, but I remember when we drafted Banks... a 6'2 220 pound pitbull point guard with aggressive defensive tendencies...  He was super confident in his press conference.  Expectations were high.   We also took one of the youngest players later in the draft... 18 year old Perk.   Reminds me a lot of selecting Smart and 18 year old James Young... we are in a similar position.  Actually, I think we'd be lucky to play as well as the 2003-04 Celtics.  That team won 36 games and made the playoffs due to the Leastern Conference. They got swept by Indiana in round 1.  If we cross our fingers, we might end up having the same result.

Not at all.
Rondo is no Pierce!
Where is the draft day trade for an all star (Ray Allen)?
Even if the Love trade would happen, the team is not good enough to really contend.
Other teams now know Ainge and will not trade with him as far as all star caliber players. They don't want to get hosed.
Prepare for a 30 win season.

I'm pretty sure the OP is meaning about a trade in the works, like the KG trade were everyone thought it was dead and gone. The OP never said it was exactly like '07 were we will win it all and everything, but that something is in the works.

No Rondo isn't PP, but he is our established player like PP was back then.

Even with Love, we don't have a complete rebuilt team, but I see Love more as the Allen part of the rebuild than the KG. Love could help bring in the third piece of the puzzle.

Even with a no Love trade, I think something will happen that mixes a lot of pieces up.

why on earth would you want to win 36 games, make the playoffs, and get swept in the first round?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Fine with me -- I had a lot of fun the first summer of '07
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

The way I remember it was that we only had to convince KG to come to town--the Wolves weren't the issue. That's completely the opposite of now (on the face of things) where it seems Love would gladly come here and we have to convince Flip, who seems like a pretty good natured, level headed guy, so I don't know what the holdup is. Wait. Nevermind that's the opposite, he only hires his family and friends and wants to trade for or draft players who are represents by his BFF Bill Duffy.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

I'm not disagreeing but I really hope Smart isn't Banks 2.0...I had such high hopes for Smart...very very high hopes. For some reason, I see him as a perennial all-star
