Nets want to dump him to make room for Jack. Last year of his contract and we can problally get a future first from Cleveland as a sweetner. I know more Small  ball talk but I like thorton and we could always deal him at the deadline for more pieces.

This was mentioned in the 'new favorite for lebron' thread, and I would do it in a heartbeat just to screw over Pat Riley, haha ;D  Why not Jeff Green for Thornton?  We get an expiring contract, the Cavs would then have the ability to sign lebrick, and Brooklyn gets an insurance policy at sf in case Pierce leaves.  I would want a pick for Green, though.

He is a very streaky player. Needs the ball to be effective. I think I'll pass.
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

celtics recives: marcus thorton (back-up SG for bradley or starting SG sometimes)

cleveland recieves: brandon bass (starting of back-up PF floor spacer for lebron, behind thompson)

brooklyn receives: jarret jack, tyler zeller, one 2nd round pick (insurance big zeller PF/C for the nets, a back-up PG and 2nd round pick)

Pretty sure what they mean is they want someone to absorb Thornton's salary...

So...

Jack to Brooklyn
Thornton to Boston
TPE to Cleveland

Only problem is, Boston probably doesn't do this, because it would sabotage their Kevin Love dreams.   The second Bron signs with the Cavs, the Cavs just need to call up the Wolves and say "Wiggins + Filler for Love" and the Wolves jump all over it.  Love has already said he'd re-sign in Cleveland if LeBron was there.

since we are not in a win now mode

letting go of bass gives us a chance to sign a free agent bigman
or having thorton and trying some rookie guys
tavares, klimenko, etc etc;

Can't stand Thorton. No room for him with our current roster.

I like Thornton and I think he'd provide a nice contrast to Rondo. A quality scorer who is a role player level player alongside a star player who is more a facilitator than a scorer. I think that dynamic would work well together.

That said, I do not think this is the right time. Boston's backcourt is already full with Rondo, Smart and Bradley's $8 million a year pay deal. No room for another expensive guard. Minimum contract guys only. Players who will be happy being 5-10mpg to third string guys. That is not Thornton.

I must've missed the memo that went out about how we are not trying to win now.
