The Cs should sign him. When given the opportunity he's always been a solid lunch pail guy -- good defender and rebounder, and an excellent shot blocker. Best of all, he'd likely come cheap. He'd immediately be the best center on the Cs roster.

Is Udoh really that much of an upgrade over Joel Anthony?

Both undersized centers. PF type bodies. Both players are really poor rebounders (amongst weakest in league at their positions) and very limited offensive players (again, near bottom of league in their positions). Similar defensive skill-sets based around shot-blocking, quickness and mobility. Both players can be overwhelmed physically by bigger players.

Whatever gains that are there, if any, are minimal.

I don't think Udoh is worth pursuing. Too similar to Joel Anthony.

You're right about his rebounding, having had a closer look. But he's a far better defender and on a different level altogether as a shot blocker. He could presumably be had for far less than Anthony, who is not in the Cs long term plans.
