Hearing Carmelo will almost certainly have his decision made before the weekend is finished, according to a person familiar with the matter

This will be interesting. My gut feeling says he will go to Chicago but Houston come close as another possibility.

"Mr. Anthony, why did you decide to stay with the Knicks, instead of moving to a team that offered a realistic chance at a title?"

"Do you see this contract? I'm rich..."

Funny, because Melo's checkbook says something completely different.

NY

Me too but that is not happening. Unfortunately.

So out of Houston vs Chicago -- Chicago is the one I want to see get Melo.

I don't think Chicago has as great of a chance as most people seem to think.   Not only is Chicago unable to offer as much much money as even Houston, let alone NY, it would be a very risky and probably bad choice to team up with Derrick Rose (aka Amare 2.0).

Melo already has gone through the injured superstar headaches, why would he want to sign his last big money contract in his prime to go through the same things with Rose as he did with Amare. Chances are highly in favor of Rose never being what he once was.

I don't get why this aspect is being overlooked by so many.

Why would Melo turn down Houston, unless  this was all for his amusement? They are a top playoff team in the west without him, Texas has no state tax, he would be their go to guy and that's his best shot at winning a championship. If he doesn't leave he's just confirming he only cares about the the paycheck and there would have been nothing wrong with that until he started saying the only thing he cares about is winning a championship.

Probably because Thibs and Noah were able to drag that squad to 48 wins with odds and sodds. You have to figure adding Anthony to that team easily boosts them to 50+ wins, which is at least top 3 in the east.

An Anthony, Gibson, Noah front court would be quite powerful. Even if Rose were not to comeback i think that Bulls team could make it to the Eastern Conf Finals.

If Melo wants the money, no doubt he stays in NY as he would likely get a contract of 100M+ while other teams at max can give him 96M. If he wants to go for a ring, then Chicago is his best bet, primarily because the Eastern conference is weak outside of Miami and Indiana. The west, almost every team can contend, which makes it difficult for Houston to get out of the west when they play dominant teams like OKC or SAS or developing powerhouses in LAC, GS, and even Portland.

They are a top team in the west is what I meant... They lost to a buzzer beater 3 and would have most likely won game 7 if Lillard didn't make that shot. They have one of the best if not the best big man in the game and a Elite All-Star named James Harden. Seems like the best option to me, Chicago is a close 2nd but D Rose seems like to much of a risk factor. But now I see he's been trying to get Pau to the Knicks, not sure how much truth there is to that. Melo has probably realized no matter where he goes he most likely isn't winning a ring, so he's gonna keep collecting them checks in New York.

Agreed, a storyline I felt ignored was how much of a step forward Howard took in the playoffs last season. He was a go to post scorer in that series getting to the line and showcasing a lot of moves I've never seen him do before. His team just didn't show up and combine that with the otherworldly shooting of Aldridge it wasn't his fault.
