Grantland just posted this video showing behind the scenes of the King's war room. It's really interesting the thought process they went through to make the pick. Also, you notice that they had "move to 6" on their options so I think that confirms the serious thoughts they had of trading with Boston.

I posted this on page 2, but I'll quote it here:

For those of you that don't know the background on this, the Kings crowdsourced their draft. Here is the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuwvsZOvcms

Essentially, they asked their fans what they should do with their pick. Their fans submitted proposals with advanced analytics, all free of charge as zealous basketball addicts. After vetting thousands of submissions, the top submissions were allowed to conference with the general manager and a select few, able to sit in in their war room. Top fans submitting analytic reports ended up being from MIT Sloan School or Harvard Business School, etc. so their consulting was highly valued by the Kings front office.

This is so cool. Not being sarcastic.

If you pause it around 2 minutes, you can see the Ceilings and the Floors for Parker + Wiggins.

Wiggins' floor: Jeff Green
Wiggins' ceiling: Paul George

Parker's floor: Antwan Jameson
Parker's ceiling: Pierce/Melo

Vonleh's floor: Thompson (Tristan?)
Vonleh's Ceiling: Chris Bosh

And Embiid at 1 if he was injury free. Oden as the Floor, Hakeem as the ceiling.

Later on:

Exum's floor: Shaun Livingston
Exum's ceiling: MCW

Gordon's Floor: Kirilenko
Gordon's Ceiling: Blake Griffin

So, basically, those of us who frequent this blog are on the same level as the Kings front office. Wild.

This was interesting.  They really wanted Stauskas and were afraid the Celtics would take him at 6.
There was never any conversation of trading McLemore to the Celtics for number 6 as was rumored.  Although, it may have been edited out.

Also, if you look and pause closely enough, they have Smart floor at Iman Shumpert, and his ceiling as "good" Larry Hughes.

This makes me feel fantastic as the Kings draft history has been terrible with there player evaluations, so Smart will probably be better than dwayne wade  :)

Its a different set of folks this time around -- no Jimmer signings.

The owner seemed to basically make the decision. He seemed too involved there. Cool video for sure.

Hope smart is better then Larry Hughes.

In the very beginning, there was an item on the board saying "Staff Issues", which had Embiid and Smart listed. What's that all about, I wonder.

Also, apparently the Kings considered Smart comparable to Payton.

Educated guess: Probably players that the Kings personnel had flagged with concerns.

Staff issues is the issues the medical staff and/or front office may have with those players.

I get that part, I wonder what the issues were. They clearly weren't considering him for the #8, it seems.

I'm guessing it is related to the incident with the fan where he was suspended / character issues.

The Kings already have enough headcases. They need strong leadership.

We're able to grab Smart because we're the Celtics, and he'll be playing/learning from Rondo.

Perfect fit for us, terrible fit for them.
