The Kings already have enough headcases. They need strong leadership.

We're able to grab Smart because we're the Celtics, and he'll be playing/learning from Rondo.

Perfect fit for us, terrible fit for them.
Because Rondo isn't a headcase? You're talking about the guy who needed to have his coach tell him that others don't like playing with him.

Here's a screenshot that was captured

From the Kings Grantland video, some C's names as the floor/cieling versions of Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker

Interesting... were they listing those names randomly?  They obviously didn't think Vonleh was the 3rd best prospect, otherwise they would have taken him #8.

Do the list Smart's ceiling/floor at any point in the video... or did they not want Smart?

Looks to me like this was a presentation of their analytics team, and not necessarily an opinion of the front office.

For those of you that don't know the background on this, the Kings crowdsourced their draft. Here is the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuwvsZOvcms

Essentially, they asked their fans what they should do with their pick. Their fans submitted proposals with advanced analytics, all free of charge as zealous basketball addicts. After vetting thousands of submissions, the top submissions were allowed to conference with the general manager and a select few, able to sit in in their war room. Top fans submitting analytic reports ended up being from MIT Sloan School or Harvard Business School, etc. so their consulting was highly valued by the Kings front office.

What you're seeing there on their big board are the recommendations based on their fans who ran advanced numerical analytics on all the prospects. Their algorithms are briefly mentioned in that first video.

Become Legendary.

I'm just saying that the C's are like the Patriots. They take players that other teams avoid because of the franchise's atmosphere.

We'll get the most out of Marcus Smart, where the Kings may bring out his bad side.

I do remember Ricky Davis turning out to be quite a non-issue playing here, despite some "character" issues elsewhere.

It turned out so fine that they had to trade him away in 2 seasons because he was talking behind Pierce's back.

Also, you can only be "like the Patriots" if you're winning like the Patriots.

Right... so the big board we saw there listing

#1 - Wiggins
#2 - Parker
#3 - Vonleh
#4 - Embiid
#5 - Smart (ceiling:  Larry Hughes)
#6 - Exum

... etc.

That's not the opinion of the Kings.  It was the opinion of some fan that was presenting his thoughts.

I'm more curious about what exactly "STAFF ISSUES" refers to next to Smart's name at the beginning of the video... because that was written by an actual member of the Kings organization.

Last thought... sounds like they were probably talking to Boston with hopes of landing Stauskas at #6... hence the Mclemore for #6 talk we heard about.

This is so cool. Not being sarcastic.

If you pause it around 2 minutes, you can see the Ceilings and the Floors for Parker + Wiggins.

Wiggins' floor: Jeff Green
Wiggins' ceiling: Paul George

Parker's floor: Antwan Jameson
Parker's ceiling: Pierce/Melo

Vonleh's floor: Thompson (Tristan?)
Vonleh's Ceiling: Chris Bosh

And Embiid at 1 if he was injury free. Oden as the Floor, Hakeem as the ceiling.

Later on:

Exum's floor: Shaun Livingston
Exum's ceiling: MCW

Gordon's Floor: Kirilenko
Gordon's Ceiling: Blake Griffin

So, basically, those of us who frequent this blog are on the same level as the Kings front office. Wild.

I think you're misunderstanding what happened in the video. We actually learned very little about the Kings' actual player evaluations ahead of the draft. The video revealed that they liked Embiid at 3 (who didn't), they were happy with Stauskas at 8 (already knew that), and that they were strongly considering Payton at that position (the only real piece of insight).

The part of the video with the ceilings/floors was a presentation from fans who weren't even being paid to be there, and whose recommendations were completely ignored. They had Vonleh at 3, but the GM still ended up picking Stauskas ahead of him. When the fans were talking about Stauskas vs. Payton, you could see the head scout turn to the GM and have a laugh about how these "analytics" guys were talking about how nice Stauskas' pullup jumper looked in one tournament game that he saw.

So really what the video taught us was that the posters on this blog are on the same level as a group of Kings fans who were shown no respect at all from the Kings front office.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Owner seems a little too involved in the decision process.
The GM seemed like a complete noob as well in his calls to other teams.

Seems like the kind of front office that Danny Ainge would love to deal with.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This is why context is important.

Someone already pointed that out earlier, though.

No, I would say Rondo is definitely NOT a headcase.

Do you consider Kobe a headcase?
