I think we overpaid.  But the market forced us to overpay.  At least we get to see Avery in Green for 3-4 more years.  I just hope he can stay healthy for the remainder of his contract.  If he can do that, then I'm not worried.

A Rondo, Smart, Bradley backcourt is going to give opposing guards nightmares.  Pressey is most likely player to lose minutes because of the Celtics recent moves.  I think it is also safe to say bye-bye to Bayless.  I'd still like to see Bazemore join our group of guards but how much $$ do we have left to spend now?

How did the market forced the Celtics to overpay?  He hadn't gotten any offer sheets and his deal is one of the most lucrative thus far.  If anything, his deal is going to force other teams to overpay for role players, not that that's going to happen.

Thinking about it more, this deal makes me more upset that Ainge passed on Gary Harris.  One of the reasons he stated for taking Young over Harris was because of the glut of 6'3 guards on the roster.  Well, if they're going to play two 6'3 guards together in Smart and Bradley, Harris would've been a much, much better option.  In addition to being a very fine defender (or projected one anyway) in his own right, he's a much better ballhandler, passer and finisher.  What you get with Bradley is dogged defense, pull up jumpers and spot up threes.  That's about it.  Harris can do so much more at the same freaking size and yeah, he'd be much, much cheaper.
Signing an official offer sheet and getting offers aren't the same. I'd be shocked if Ainge hadn't confirmed that Avery was going to get such an offer sheet and sign it eventually.

this.haha people will point out the jodie meeks deal but i didn't see any offer for AB. the only rumored one is the philly interest. can't wait for the official statement from danny regarding this.

There were comments from other team's officials at various points in the season claiming that Bradley was going to get a contract on this level. You can claim that Danny overpaid for Avery but the claims that nobody else would have given him a contract like the Celts did is pretty unrealistic.

bradley was going to get a similar contract offer sooner or later. once the top free agents are scooped up the remaining teams with cap space would then move down the food chain and begin to over spend of the next tiers of free agents.

ainge saw this coming and decided to sign bradley before another team made an insane and irresponsible offer to him.

ainge gave more than i wanted, but this seems to be the new marketplace in the nba. WE are the one who seem to need to adjust, not ainge and company.

To me AB is a good asset to keep especially to use for trade purposes. Look at the lakers, they got an empty roster and lack flexibility to make moves

Here's a nice column by Mark Murphy focused on Avery Bradley's agent Mitchell Butler, and how he views Bradley from his perspective.

Thanks TP but he only plays 70% of games and regardless what his agent thinks or is putting out there, he is injury prone.

I did like the part about the contract can be moved before the ink drys. Makes me still think there is a S&T possible trade in the works.

The Lakers problem isn't that they have an empty roster, it's that they have $24m tied up in an old and broken down Kobe.

That, and they have no tradeable draft picks.

LOL did you see the part where he said Doc limited AB to a very specific role, and now AB feels free under CBS. Good ol Doc, I am glad he is doing his damage with the Clippers now.

On the flip side, his play under Doc was what nabbed him that contract, not his play this year.

true but imagine how much more he could have nabbed if Doc had let him play a complete game? You have to agree that Doc did stifle the growth of many players with his pigeon-hole system!!!

With the new tv contract coming into play in a couple of years and the silly season stuff we've seen this off-season, this contract doesn't look bad at all as long as AB can maintain some health.

$8.8 in 2017 will not look that bad.

C's are in a situation where front loading the deal isn't useful. We need potential space next year, and if we're blowing it up entirely the small difference front versus back loading makes isn't a big deal.

I do wonder if Ainge will ever sign that sort of deal though.
