I love his tenacity , leadership , and toughness . He seems to be a very good finisher at the rim , and can get to the free throw line a lot . So my question is , can he be a go to scorer in the NBA? I know he isn't a professional scorer like Melo, Durant or Lebron , but could he be a Monta Ellis type # 2 scorer on a contender ?

I could see him being a go to guy at the end of games where you want to get to the line. His quickness and size helps a lot.

I dont' know if he's constant enough to be a go to right off the bat, but from a lot of the work out video's I've been seeing the last couple of days all the coach's that are helping, including Stevens said he can shoot better than people realize.

I also read, or saw, can't remember now, that the opposing teams would but their SF's on him to try to slow him down. I'm wondering if the lengths of the SF on Smart hurt his shooting a little, causing a lower percentage, or was it the bad shot selection? He shouldn't have guys that much bigger than him in the nba, at least not when he's playing point. And I have a feeling Rondo/coaching should help with the shot selection a bit.

Still can't wait for Summer league. I just wish Milwaukee and Cleveland were int he Orlando group. At least we get to see him compete against Gordon.

yup. If he can lower his turnover (which BS will be able to help him with as he did KO) and improve his jump shot (make open jump shots consistently), he will be a handful to contain

He was one of the top players in college at going to the line

The more I watch tape on him he really reminds me of a young Dwayne Wade. Big body, combo guard, elite finisher. Yes he's a shaky jump shooter but that can be tooled and tinkered. Mark this reply down because I see Smart as a 23+ pts, 5 assists, 5 rebounds a game(along with elite defense) he can create for himself and should play off the ball well in this offense due to his speed and physicality. As I see teams eventually having to put bigger 2 guards and wing players on him can torch them with speed. He'll get to the line regularly with all the contact he creates and the way the game is called now a days.
"I am not going to back down from any challenge. Like I said, you are going to have to prove to me. I am a fighter; I will keep fighting and will never give up." Marcus Smart

Smart needs to develop and Pierce-esque step back jumper, then he can be a deadly scorer.

Obviously we all know he needs to develop his mid range game and eventually 3pt shot. With that being said, he does one thing no one on our team did this year which was get to the line ALOT. Players like Smart who embrace/initiate/finish through contact generally make pretty good scorers. So yes I do believe Smart will be a player we can count on late in games with the ball in his hands.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

It sounds like he will be effective attacking the basket, but will mostly be a defensive specialist backing up rondo and Bradley out of the gate.

I agree with all of the above.   I think he does have that potential.

He's a good passer too.  You are way too down on him.

I'm not down on him. I think he will start eventually. But he should earn minutes immediately with his defense and hustle

Absolutely. I actually think he's pretty versatile offensively. Stevens and the staff need to ween him off taking overly contested shots, but I honestly think Smart could be an easy 20+ PPG guy. He will absolutely live at the line in the NBA, in my opinion.

He can post most guards easily, he moves very well without the ball (Rondo I'm sure would love that) he can come off curls and hit short jumpers on occasion and I'd actually like to see that more with Rondo and him. He drives relentlessly on the regular and contrary to most people's beliefs, he's actually pretty efficient in spot up type situations. He'll be able to hit the open shots in the NBA. And finally, when he does decide to gun and he's on? He's seriously on.

I think he'll benefit incredibly from the open NBA game and the coaching provided by Stevens' staff. I'm ecstatic over the Smart pick. I think he'll be an excellent two way player in the NBA and this was such a great, great pick by Danny.

He hit 45% of his uncontested shots in college. And something like 24% contested. I remember reading that somewhere, I'm sure one of you knows the article I am referring to. I guess teams did put bigger guys on him but also he had to take a lot of the teams shots because of lack of scoring and talent.

Personally, I think Smart is the new hybrid of NBA pg. Tall enough to be considered a sg but not a sf and long enough to defend 1-3. The size of a linebacker with the jump of dwayne wade. Basically Lebron but 6'4'' and better shot.
Many here are thinking he will play the 2 but I am cyncacle and think Rondo will be shipped out and this whole "we can play both" thing will be shown to be a smokescreen.

Marcus Smart = a longer, more athletic Deron Williams or a 6'4'' Lebron with better shot

Except for the fact that Lebron is the far better shooter...
