I think adding Monroe would make us a playoff team. Since we would need to do a sign and trade to get him the question for me would be how many picks would it cost the Celtics and how much money per year. If we could get him for reasonable money I would probably give up two firsts for him, if it's max money I would only give them one first with extremely heavy protection.

If we are rebuilding having a good 23 year old center isn't the worst idea.

The combination of how much value we'll have to send to make it feasible to Detroit, and how much his salary is probably going to be, will make it a mistake to build around THIS particular center.

If we could sign him next year off free-agency, sure no problem, but I'm wary of what we would need to give up to trade for him.

I don't think it would take *very* much to acquire him. They *need* to deal one of their bigs and 1sts are worth their weight in gold.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Monroe, because of his offensive skills, is a real tease. He can not be played with either Sullinger or Olynyk at the 4 because he is not a rim defender. I am not opposed to the 3 way trade but it is going to have to be goosed with more of our draft choices and probably Smart and maybe Young. Minnesota still might not bite. Detroit's first choice is always going to be a simple s/t, Rondo for Monroe and there is no way that i would do that assuming that it even complies with league trade rules.  If no Love, a 3way with Milwaukee and Detroit that brings us both Monroe and Henson or Sanders for Rondo is something to consider as we would give up our 28 year old allstar but preserve all our other assets for a full rebuild. Detroit would also have to throw in more number ones. Milwaukee would get some kind of draft choice from Detroit. Just a random idea if no Love. Monroe is 24, Henson23, and Sanders25.

i would be very interested in having Monroe as our C. He strikes me as a high IQ guy and I think our offense will be humming.

I'd assume we'd need to give up Rondo to acquire him though. But Smart-Sully-Monroe is a pretty good young core, methinks, and IMO, the pieces fit well with each other. We wouldn't have much in the way of rim protection, but hopefully we can get some help off the bench for that. Are guys like Biyombo or even Okafor available on the cheap? The team would also need some vet leadership. Bring back Perk! ;D

I'd imagine that a Monroe deal that Detroit might want would be something like Monroe getting the max and Detroit getting Jeff Green, Jared Sullinger (or Kelly Olynyk), a first-round pick (2015 top three protected?), another pick and filler.

Not interested in him playing center for us. We should hold out until we find the right center that actually blocks shots and gets a double double by walking out of bed. If we have to draft the creature in the 2015 draft, thats fine.
