Getting more nervous about the idea of passing on Marcus Smart (or Aaron Gordon) for someone who is such a high injury risk.

Those two guys are really good.

Joel Embiid's seriously in play for three spots in top part of lottery: 76ers (3), Celtics (6), Lakers (7), league sources tell Yahoo.

Given what Orlando just did with the Affalo trade, its looking more & more like Philly might be the only obstacle standing between the Celtics and an opportunity at Embiid.
You certainly meant to say that Philly is the only one standing between the Celtics and an unmitigated disaster. We hear you.

Well, yeah.  I've certainly made it known on here that I'm not enamored with drafting Embiid if he's available at #6.

Just pointing out obstacles for those who would want him.

I bet after his foot is nearly healed from surgery the Celts will ask embiid to get a lower back surgery next.  If he gets these two things fixed, he is young enough to heal properly, the Celts basically got the 1st pick at 6th.

Think about it like this.  One of Randle , Smart, Vonleh or two have to move up for Embiid to be there at 6. If it's between Smart or Vonleh or Embiid, who are you going to take?  Can you find Smart, Vonleh kind of players later in the draft?? Can you find these kind of players in a future draft??

Can't really say that about embiid.  Maybe comes around every 5 years. So i would take the risk and focus on fixing him up.  He prob won't be ready until December/Jan.  I can already imagine/hear the chants the first game he steps onto the court

But are they franchise players? No! I do really like them though.

Some of these tweet updates are just silly... We might as well see stuff like:

Woj: the Celtics will do something at the draft tonight!

Ford: the Celtics will definitely make a pick or a trade tonight!

Talent-wise, Embiid has a ridiculous ceiling.  See a mix of Robinson/Hakeem if he can get there.

The only thing holding me back on drafting him is the injury factor.  Back & foot with a big guy scares the heck out of me.

The talent is there, though.

earliest he goes is C's at 6.  No way Philly takes a chance on him at 3 with one of Exum, Parker or Wiggins on the board.  Magic just traded their SG and no way is his agent going to let him go to Utah...It's Bos or LA...

It seems sensible that #1 and #2 will be Wiggins and Parker in some order.

After that, I think the whole premise of the Woj prediction of Ebiid to Sixers, Celtics, or Lakers is based on the rumors the mysterious medical records that were not shared with Orlando or Utah.  It also make sense that Orl and Utah already have decent big guys so maybe they are less likely to take the chance on Embiid.

None of this seems to be to be reassuring enough though.  Embiid could go anywhere and most likely will be gone before #6.  I know that if we have the chance at him, we almost have to take him, partly because we have so many other picks, it is easier for us to take the risk, but the medical side really scares me.

I bet you don't really understand how stress fractures work. It's considerably different from your run-of-the mill impact break.

A stress fracture occurs because your body isn't able to handle the workload you're throwing at it. There is no guarantee that this issue can be mitigated with a regimen -- there could be metabolic reasons why Embiid's body may never be able to handle the rigors of the NBA season.

He's had 2 different stress fractures before he even played an NBA game. Draw your own conclusions -- mine is "too much of a risk".

Thought I was the only one not excited about taking him. 0.0

I agree with you.  According to many reports he has had two back injuries already.  One in high school two seasons ago and his stress fracture last year.  Now with yet another fracture, this time in the foot, he has been injured in 3 of the 5 years he has been playing basketball.  If everything worked out for him he with out question would be a steal but its just not worth the risk.  Next years draft is full of big men (Okafor, Towns, Porzingis, Turner, Diop, Cauly-Stien).  Draft Smart and build from there.
