My gut says that if Ainge trades Rondo, it won't be until after exploring possible sign-and-trade acquisitions, so not until July.

+1.

I don't think it's Love-or-bust as so many do. There's still some interesting FA options. Greg Monroe immediately comes to mind.
I think Ainge loves this draft.  If he can get 1 of the 6 guys he adores, he'll probably move Rondo.

Ainge has never been someone afraid of dealing away an established player for a prospect he has faith in.  He came very close to trading Pierce for Portland's pick in 2005... the pick would have been used on Chris Paul... but Pierce killed the deal.  If Ainge loves someone available at #8 and the Kings are actually offering it for Rondo (doubtful), he probably pulls the trigger.  This, of course, is assuming that Kevin Love is out of reach.

As unfathomable as it seems, there's a real possibility that the player taken #8 will end up better than Rondo in a few years.

I would love Greg Monroe!

I think a great start would be drafted Aaron Gordon, sign and trade for Monroe, and try to find the best possible trade for Sully. Rondo + a front court of Green/Gordon/Monroe should get you to the playoffs in the East.

Get the feeling Boston will pull off a trade for any one of the following :

* Kevin Love (think this is unlikely)
* Melo
* Gortat
* Monroe
* Josh Smith

In the case of Smith, Gortat or Monroe, Boston could probably absorb then straight up with a trade exception amd then throw in #17 and a future pick or two, which is a pretty cheap price.  Neither would surprise me because Boston don't just need a rim protector, they also could use an upgrade at the PF spot.  They have a logjam of mediocre talemt there right now..at least until/unless Sully and Olynyk develop.

Wouldn't surprise me if either Sully or Olynyk (or both) goes out in a deal.

Suspect Boston will draft Smart, Vonleh or Embiid.  Exum if he Helens to slip to them.

You think this happens tonight? 3 of the guys you mentioned are FA's and can't be traded unless it's a sign & trade in July.

My gut is telling me, for some reason, well pull off a trade and it's not Kevin Love. Al Horford, anyone?

Josh Smith as a target wouldn't surprise me at all.

Ainge is apparently high on Gordon, who has the same limitations as Smith (Jump shot, free throws).  Only Smith is probably even more athletic and definately more valuable down low thanks to his added strength and post game.

Either way,  if DA really likes Gordon's game then that means none of Smith's limitations are likely to concern him, and Smith may well be available for less than Gordon lol

If no Embiid... I hold out hope that we trade for Henson or Gobert. I believe both of them will continue to develop into good defenders and needed shot blockers.

This would be a cheaper option at center, then go after more impact players at the 2/3 positions with the extra money.

Really, most of the successful nba teams have impact wing scorers more so than post players. Just my opinion.

Just say no to Josh Smith.  He has the worst shot selection.

As this week has gone by, I've just started to feel like there could be a deal or two that we're not talking about, but it won't be "epic"...Maybe a trading of picks, adding one in the 2nd, maybe something with Bass and/or Green, but not "Fireworks".

Tomorrow AM the C's will have the best crop of trade assetts in the NBA.  We'll also be looking at a roster that is likely to win 20 games in 2014-15.

And then if we don't move Rondo soon, how soon until he starts "acting out"?
