Good. I don't want anything to do with Asik.

Don't get me wrong, in pure basketball terms he is a good piece. Very efficient and intelligent player.

However, he's got a bad contract, he's had injury problems, and he has a bad attitude. I mean, he completely gave up on the Rockets and acted like a spoiled child. He refused to play because he threw a hissy fit over having to back up Dwight Howard, who is inarguably a better player. I don't want anything to do with a role player who thinks he is a star.

I dont think danny wants to invest that kind of money in a roleplayer when we dont have a star piece yet to build around. Especially when we have all that cap-space coming next summer to go after free agents.

I'm not sad about this...

Asik = ehhhh

Plus, Ron Adams was a big part of our connection with him and he is gone now. I would have rather seen NO make a move for Greg Monroe. He is a Louisiana native, a true center that could move Davis to PF, good passer, plays in the post. Davis could have covered up his defensive liabilities and had a true talent alongside of him. I would have loved the inside-out offense between them and they would own the boards.

I don't think Asik is a talent. I think he is just a big guy that tries hard on defense because he is so lousy on offense.

Monroe would have been an excellent fit in New Orleans, but I guess that still leaves him available to us. I realize he isn't the best fit with Sully or KO, but I am a fan. Also still crossing my fingers for Embiid.

Rockets clearing cap room to make run at LeBron or Melo. With James Harden as potential sign&trade, they could land both to team w/Dwight

What if Danny uses the exception to sign & trade for Harden freeing up Houston to get Melo/James....and then we also trade for Love forming a big 3 of Rondo/Love/Harden :-)

Ok waking up...seeing we drafted at the number 6 spot...

I liked the idea of Asik here, but with one year left on his deal and probably another pricy contract coming up it never made much sense.  We weren't likely to contend by the end of next season regardless.

Wow, I wake up to this news...

New Orleans must just not like 1st round picks. Two (high) first rounders for Jrue and now another first rounder for an expiring Asik (with a posion pill).

Davis/Asik/Anderson is a phenomenal trio though. Maybe they feel the pressure to put a winning team around Davis early on?

Hat-tip to Morey. We thought he lost all the leverage but somehow still got a 1st rounder for Asik.

On the Celtics front, it's a bummer. All I really want for this team right now is a starting/defensive center. Even if Emiid falls, he may not even be play next year.

It's worth noting that it has top 20 protections on it in favor of New Orleans, so Houston'll only get it if it lands 21-30, and NO also paid them $1.5 mil.

James Harden is not a free agent, so you can't do a sign and trade for him.  If Harden were a free agent, his contract would not be small enough to fit into the trade exception.  And, just, no.

You're reading it wrong.

NOH keeps the pick if its 1-3 or 21-30, Houston gets it if its 4 - 19 and NOH gets 1.5 million cash. Its like the Lowry protections, Houston is protected from getting a low first round pick and NOH is protected if they win the lottery with the pick.

That would be awesome. I'd love the Celts to get Harden in a trade if they dealt away all the necessary cap space.

Rondo and Harden would be awesome and maybe we end up being of interest to Durant in 2016.

I'm not sure why Houston wouldn't just trade Harden to Miami or New York directly in that case.  Seems completely unnecessary to basically give Harden away to a third team for free so they can sign LeBron and Melo in free agency.  Why not sign one of those guys and trade for the other?

Not that I buy that report since it's a Broussard report.

If your choices are, for example, trade Harden to NY for a S+T Melo, or trade Harden elsewhere for some decent assets (maybe a future 1st or two) and sign Melo outright, I think option #2 is the clear winner.

Oh, absolutely.  I was just referring to the idea of trading Harden in a straight dump to get Melo.

Though, at that point, it becomes a question of whether or not Boston is willing to surrender the assets they'd likely have to give up for Harden since Houston probably wouldn't just dump him.
