I personally think Danny wasn't trading a first for Asik who had 1yr left on his contract.  I think his target all along is Marc Gasol.

Quote
Zach Lowe of ESPN reports the pick to the Rockets will be conveyed in 2015 only if it is outside of the top 2/3 of the lottery or better than a top-20 selection.

The pick only is conveyed if it falls within picks 11 to 19 next year?

Disappointed, but hopefully Ainge can land a bigger fish with the TPE.

I don't even see how his target is Marc Gasol at all... There hasn't ever been anything linked to him. But I can see the Grizzlies putting him on the trade block if they decide to go a youth movement.

Yeah, in 2015 there are big prizes to land in free agency. And the Celtics should have significant cap space for the first time in franchise history. Unless the Celtics can grab a Kevin Love level star this summer, they should hold out for next summer.

But, I still don't see how NO can absorb Asik outright.

So, perhaps Ainge is involved somehow in this deal, using the TPE to take something from NO?

Gortat, here we come.

my moneys on Gortat in Miami if their trio stays together

I don't think they can afford him.  +  Gortat should be a celtic

I like this move for NO.  I agree with others that Davis is a stud and better @ the 4.

Exactly. There was nothing linked to Brad Stevens as well. Ainge plays his cards, but never shows them.

I haven't done the math rigorously, but it looks like they might be able to able to squeeze him into cap space if they dump their small unguaranteed contracts and renounce all free agents.  So, they'd be waiving goodbye to Al-Farouq Aminu, Greg Stiemsma, and Jason Smith.  That could mean they plan on starting Tyreke Evans at SF.

They'd be going with a starting lineup of Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Davis, and Asik with Ryan Anderson as their sixth man.  They might look to do a salary dump of Anthony Morrow or Austin Rivers if that means they can hang on to Jeff Withey.

Now that I have elucidated the cap situation, is anyone afraid that the Celtics will be acquiring Austin Rivers?

Questions for the CBA Gurus... Pierce trade exception expires 12 days after free agency.  Boston can take back 10 million.  Could the Wizards do a sign-and-trade of Gortat for the Pierce trade exception assuming it happens within that 12 day timeframe?

Yes, but I think Washington is willing to pay more than that, so it requires either Gortat being willing to take less money to come to Boston (and the Wizards being willing to facilitate that for a guy who spurned them) or Washington being willing to let both Gortat and Ariza go because they can sign a major free agent like Carmelo Anthony.

I've heard he wants more than that too.

Most of the Gortat excitement stems from the belief that he WANTS to play in Boston.  On june 8th, he retweeted a photoshop of himself in Celtic gear:  https://twitter.com/Imran2K15/status/475516276585299968

I hear the Rockets probably will not hang onto that Pelicans pick very long... they will package it with whoever is willing to take Lin off their hands.

If Boston goes youth movement, I think it would be a no-brainer move to trade the Pierce exception for Lin and the pick.  Why not, right?

Imagine a miracle scenario where Embiid falls to #6.  The pipe dream Sacto trade where we get #8 and McLemore for Rondo...  then send off the trade exception for Lin and the Pelicans 4-19 pick.   Lin expires at the end of the year... he can play default starting PG.

Wow, I wake up to this news...

New Orleans must just not like 1st round picks. Two (high) first rounders for Jrue and now another first rounder for an expiring Asik (with a posion pill).

Davis/Asik/Anderson is a phenomenal trio though. Maybe they feel the pressure to put a winning team around Davis early on?

Hat-tip to Morey. We thought he lost all the leverage but somehow still got a 1st rounder for Asik.

On the Celtics front, it's a bummer. All I really want for this team right now is a starting/defensive center. Even if Emiid falls, he may not even be play next year.
