it personally doesnt make sense to me. Their center is anthony davis. Now theyre paying top dollar to 2 centers... and if they wanted "rim protection," they could have kept nerlens noel (who is better and more valuable because on rookie deal) instead of trading him away

Their center is Asik. Anthony Davis is a power forward. They struggled all season last year trying to put a decent center next to Davis.

Asik has never been Ainge's type of center. Who is Ainge's type of center?

Russell
Cowens
Parish
Garnett

Having Asik on that list never would have made sense.

Don't understand why Danny could not offer more for Asik. He is worth a future first in my view. We have plenty of firsts and Bogan's non-guaranteed contract - unless we are getting Embid at #6. Maybe this is good news after all!

Because there's no point of trading for Asik if we don't have Love. Don't see why we would just trade for Asik if we are rebuilding.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
This certainly puts a damper on the "quick rebuild". Looks like Danny will have to work his magic through the draft. We'll be better for it.

...Because we can't get Asik? I mean I think we are trending for the long rebuild to but I dont think Asik has anything to do with that. Theres plenty of other defensive centers that could fill the same he'd fit.

There are plenty of defensive centers, there are not plenty of defensive centers who can do what Asik does at his level or better. There's maybe 1 or 2.

Idk I prefer Sanders to Asik. Outside of Howard, advanced metrics say he is the 2nd best interior defender in the nba.

...AND he's on the Bucks so he should be available.

If we could get Sanders and he performed at 12-13 levels, hell yes. But 13-14 Sanders was awful. God-awful. And a knucklehead. Asik performed down the stretch, and he looked very good in the playoffs, Aldridge was just a lot better that series.

I get that anthony davis is on his rookie contract too, but why bother getting a center if you have the best one in the game already?

Makes tons of sense. Davis is not a center. He is a natural PF who was forced to play C. He is better off playing the 4.

Forgot for a moment that New Orleans also have Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans in the backcourt.

PG: Jrue Holiday, (Tyreke Evans)
SG: Eric Gordon, (Tyreke Evans)
SF:
PF: Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson
 C: Omer Asik, (Anthony Davis)

All they need is a strong role playing SF and that team is ready to make some noise.

This is a great move for New Orleans.  Good luck scoring inside on them this year.

Yep this should them a ton.  They could make the playoffs next year with the other players they have.  Anything to get the west stronger next year makes it more likely Love will get traded from the Wolves.

Not that I disagree --- but that looks like a Celticsblog Draft team in progress: A lot of talent, some of it random, some good fits. :)

1st round pick: Davis
2nd round pick: Holiday
3rd round pick: Asik
4th round pick: Gordon

Trade your 5th and 7th rounder to get another 4th rounder to pick Tyreke Evans?

Spot on.

Good deal for Houston.
At the end of the day we would not have given up a first rounder for him. He had one great season. Multiple good seasons as a backup and that's it.
Embiid- here we come!
