As long as Danny can trade Bass for something else.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

This is a great move for New Orleans.  Good luck scoring inside on them this year.

Eh.  I wanted Asik but not at the cost of a first round pick.  He's definitely worth that to New Orleans but not Boston.

This certainly puts a damper on the "quick rebuild". Looks like Danny will have to work his magic through the draft. We'll be better for it.

...Because we can't get Asik? I mean I think we are trending for the long rebuild to but I dont think Asik has anything to do with that. Theres plenty of other defensive centers that could fill the same he'd fit.

Not ones that are available for a relatively low asking price.

Asik was a great option because if Ainge was able to acquire a star scorer first, then as a second move acquiring Asik to fix interior defense would create a very well balanced Boston Celtics team (also due to players already in place, starters 1-4, backup forwards) that is probably just one move away from title-contention.

It was a balancing move that would really fast-track things and bring things together if Ainge made a big trade (giving up multiple pieces) to land star. Rather than ending up like Knicks with Melo who needed almost two years to get their roster in place after having to gut the team to acquire Melo.

Right what I'm saying is that with Love looking less and less likely, and now Asik being off the market it really hampers our ability to preform a quick rebuild. He wasn't the main piece, but he was an important one.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

NOP can send out a 2015 1st? Isn't that against the Stepian rule?
"Teams are restricted from trading away future first round draft picks in consecutive years. This is known as the "Ted Stepien Rule." Stepien owned the Cavs from 1980-83, and made a series of bad trades (such as the 1982 trade mentioned above) that cost the Cavs several years' first round picks. As a result of Stepien's ineptitude, teams are now prevented from making trades which might leave them without a first round pick in consecutive future years.

The Stepien rule applies only to future first round picks. For example, if this is the 2011-12 season, then a team can trade its 2012 first round pick without regard to whether they had traded their 2011 pick, since their 2011 pick is no longer a future pick. But they can't trade away both their 2012 and 2013 picks, since both are future picks. Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years, or by giving one team the right to swap picks with the other. "

Wonder if Houston will use that 2015 pick they just got to dump Lin. Would you guys take on Lin for an additional 2015 1st?

I'm sure the NO pick is protected. This allows Davis to play his natural position also. Better for him to be a PF.

So it won't be official until after tomorrow's draft, I'm guessing.

Don't understand why Danny could not offer more for Asik. He is worth a future first in my view. We have plenty of firsts and Bogan's non-guaranteed contract - unless we are getting Embid at #6. Maybe this is good news after all!

That pelicans team is going to be a contender pretty soon.  They already have a top 5 player and he's just a kid

I get that anthony davis is on his rookie contract too, but why bother getting a center if you have the best one in the game already? Davis averaged 20/10/1/1/3 in his SOPHOMORE season. he's on pace to be one of the best centers of all time. Now theyre paying top dollar to 2 centers... and if they for some odd reason, wanted more " rim protection," (ridiculous because davis led the league in blocks), they could have kept nerlens noel (who is better and more valuable because on rookie deal) instead of trading him away
