This certainly puts a damper on the "quick rebuild". Looks like Danny will have to work his magic through the draft. We'll be better for it.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Great trade for NO. Asik next to Anthony Davis will be a force inside.

Davis and Asik front court, should be great defensively

...Because we can't get Asik? I mean I think we are trending for the long rebuild to but I dont think Asik has anything to do with that. Theres plenty of other defensive centers that could fill the same he'd fit.

Houston has dealt Omar Asik to New Orleans for a protected first-round pick, sources confirmed to ESPN. Pick could be as soon as 2014.

There are plenty of defensive centers, there are not plenty of defensive centers who can do what Asik does at his level or better. There's maybe 1 or 2.

Not ones that are available for a relatively low asking price.

Asik was a great option because if Ainge was able to acquire a star scorer first, then as a second move acquiring Asik to fix interior defense would create a very well balanced Boston Celtics team (also due to players already in place, starters 1-4, backup forwards) that is probably just one move away from title-contention.

It was a balancing move that would really fast-track things and bring things together if Ainge made a big trade (giving up multiple pieces) to land star. Rather than ending up like Knicks with Melo who needed almost two years to get their roster in place after having to gut the team to acquire Melo.

It's trending towards a long term rebuild. Starting to wonder if Rondo does get dealt....

New Orleans has been making some pretty solid moves, IMO. I like their lineup.

They don't have a 2014 1st. 2015 first.

Rockets sending cash too according to Windhorst.

Idk I prefer Sanders to Asik. Outside of Howard, advanced metrics say he is the 2nd best interior defender in the nba.

...AND he's on the Bucks so he should be available.

maybe if NO lands a 2014 1st they will send it to Houston instead of a future 1st

NOP can send out a 2015 1st? Isn't that against the Stepian rule?
