Getting Smart or Randle at 6 and then getting someone like Payton, Ennis or Payne at 17 (or giving up 17 for Asik) and still having a Rondo who is going to be very unhappy. I want them to either get players who can play up tempo with Rondo, surround him with talent or to go youth all the way and trade Rondo.

I'd do that if #6 wasn't included

1. Ainge miraculously trades up to #1 but takes Jabari Parker or Exum.
2. Not being able to trade for Kevin Love or any other impact player, and then keeping Rondo. Granted we could still do something later in the offseason to make us more competitive next year, but the draft is a milestone in the offseason. If we end up not doing much this offseason, I can definitely see Rondo walking for greener (no pun intended) pastures next year.
3. Trading Rondo for a subpar package
4. Trading #6 for a subpar package

--

What would make me confused (but something I wouldn't consider a bad draft night) is if we take Randle at 6.

Any variant on that Sacramento trade that involves Ben Lack-le-score coming to the Celtics.
Trading Olynyk.
Randle.
Embiid jumping for joy as he falls to us at 6, trips over the cat and breaks something else.

any lopsided trades for Love

any trade of Rondo for a pick and baggage

Randle with the 6th pick

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Things I don't want to see:

1) The Celtics picking Randle
2) The Celtics moving a future unprotected pick along with the 17 to move into the lottery, especially a worse pick than 8th or 9th
3) Any draft day trade that sends Kevin Love anywhere besides boston.
4) Vonleh. Just not excited. Maybe not a 'bad' night, because I trust Danny, but not a fan.
5) Any kind of reach for McBuckets or Saric or Stauskus or James Young or any of that nonsense at 6
6) Passing on Embiid if we're keeping the pick

Smart or Embiid

Smart has been compared to Dwyane Wade and Embiid to Olajuwan

Right potential
Head case and life cripple

Smart is not a head case. One incident of shoving an obnoxious fan who was shouting racist insults does not make someone a head case. He's a good teammate and a great competitor.

Does Sullinger's domestic assault charge make him a head case?

Well played.  TP
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Them trading down or trading the pick for anybody not named Kevin Love (or of that caliber).

It would be a bad draft night for the Celtics if:

Rondo is still on the team in the morning.  The Celtics cannot effectively rebuild until Rondo is gone.

Embiid is not on the team in the morning.  The Celtics cannot effectively rebuild until they have a legitimate center.

A bad draft night for me would be to make no trades and end up with an undersized PF and a low ceiling guard. Otherwise known as the Julius Randle and Shabazz Napier option.
