If the Knicks and Rockets are looking to make this happen, Boston could be a third team to help with financials.  http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/233910/Broussard-Knicks-Rockets-Sign-And-Trade-Of-Carmelo-For-Harden-Possible

Boston
Get: Chandler Parsons, Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Iman Shumpert
Give: Bogans, Faverani, 2014 #17 pick

New York Knicks
Get: Harden, #17
Give: Anthony, Shumpert

Houston
Get: Anthony, Bogans (immediately cut), Faverani
Give: Harden

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ptymp39

This leaves enough room for the Rockets to sign Lebron in the off season and form a big three of Howard, James, Anthony.

Knicks get a star and a draft pick. Obviously better than losing Anthony for nothing in free agency.

Celtics get depth at every position. They can use trade exceptions on all but one of the incoming players, so Lin's 8.4 million is the only financial hit during the trade. They could put out a possible roster before attacking free agency of:

PG: Rondo/Lin/Pressey
SG: Smart?/Shumpert
SF: Green/Parsons/Wallace
PF: Bass/Sully
C: Asik/Olynyk/

Howard/James/Anthony would be a brutal frontcourt.

Parsons is now a RFA, so his next deal is going to be way more than his current one. I don't see how the Boston portion of this deal can work under the CBA.

Good point, missed that. If you take Parsons out of the deal, it still works financially and Lin/Asik/Shumpert is still pretty good value for Bogans, Faverani, and the rights to who we take at #17.

If necessary, Houston could send the rights to who they take at #25. This would give the celts a fourth player in the deal and Houston could avoid a guaranteed rookie contract.

This sounds like awful value for the Rockets. If Carmelo would sign there, why not move Harden to another team who could absorb his contract but also give the Rockets a boatload of picks, then just sign Melo outright.

This goes for the article KO posted on the front page. Couldn't the Cavs move the first, anthony bennett and Thristan Thompson all separately to teams with cap space and draft picks, thereby cutting enough salary for Lebron and Melo as well as adding a bunch of firsts that they could use to improve their team while Melo and LeBron are there.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I agree. I was just building on the Sign-and-trade rumor. Definitely makes more sense to find value for Harden and sign Melo outright

So Knicks gives nothing and gets Harden and first round.

What a Genius!

I don't see why the Celtics give up the 17.  The Celtics are already helping out both teams.

I'm pretty sure Boston would need to give up WAY more than #17 if they were going to get Asik, Parson and Lin out of it.

Yep, I mean Boston could even before the draft absorb Bennett and Thompson into the trade exception (though it would move them into luxury tax this year) and acquire #1 for both 2015 picks, Brooklyn's 2016 pick (or whatever).  Boston could then flip the #1, Bogans, Sullinger, and Green for Love and still have 6 and 17 to add to the depth this year.

Boston could also absorb those guys post draft if Cleveland wanted to wait, though then Boston would have to have whichever player Cleveland drafted (which I think Boston would be ok with, especially if Embiid dropped to 6).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

You want to butt in a deal where you're not really needed, and you expect to land almost an entire starting lineup for the 17th pick?!

 :o

You're a funny guy.

I can see why the Knicks would try to do this in order or Attract Kevin Durant in 2017. They would have Harden and Derrick Fisher but not sure why the Rockets do it? Seems to me Melo would insist Harden be there if he's signing to them.

I'm not ready to give up on Bogans so soon. And his contract isn't THAT bad.  >:(
