Player of team sport wants best possible teammates, is willing to travel to do so.

I'd love to know KG's thoughts on this.

Kinda makes sense for Ray. He already jumped ship from the Celts. There's nothing for him to come back to at the moment. Staying in Miami will suck if James departs.

Why wouldn't he try to stay on a contending team, have fun and be relevant? The dude's just hanging on for another year or two and wants to jack jumpers when it counts. He's on the dark side already .. . might as well stay there 'til you retire.

i'm sorry, i respect ray allen's  competitiveness, i respect what he did here... but this is pathetic. it's like the little kid on the playground always making sure he plays with the big bully kid so he's never on the losing team.
you're an all-star and a champion, ray, where is your dignity?
and i wonder if lebroid really even wants ray at this point. IMO ray was awful this postseason, his defense is horrific now, he was responsible for a lot of the dribble-pass-3's that miami gave up against the spurs.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
Player of team sport wants best possible teammates, is willing to travel to do so.

Um, there's no shortage of teams that he could go to that would potentially offer great teammates and a chance to win. San Antonio, for one, loves 3 pts shooters to help spread the floor. OKC could  use him, Chicago, the Clippers - he'd have a choice of teams.

He doesn't have to be Lebron's caddy.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

i think if the headline said, ray wanted to stay on a contending team instead of follow Lebron, people would cut him some slack.

Im sure OKC would want him, the Spurs would even probably love to have him, and the Clippers.

Looks like LeBron has a new shadow.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

My mistake.

Lot of jilted ex responses in this thread.

Ray's made more money than he'll ever spend, and he's already punched his ticket to the HOF.  If he wants to play out his career as backup on a championship-caliber team, good for him.

Ha, I knew it!  I'm with you guys 100% - DO NOT RETIRE HIS NUMBER!  EVER!  Remember when he left, and he said in an interview that, "he'd always be a Celtics?"  I remember thinking, "and we, the fans, will be the judge of that!"  Once he saved Lebrick's legacy, there was absolutely no way that he could rehabilitate his image among Celtics fans.  I blamed Ainge and Doc more than Ray, but I still hated him for leaving.  He should have looked at it this way - if you're not going to stay for Danny or Doc, do it for the fans (many of whom supported you since the UCONN days), but more importantly, do it for your teammates, especially numbers the other 2 members of the Big Three.  Didn't KG and Pierce step in to prevent a trade or 2 involving him in the past?  That's loyalty to each other, but I guess he doesn't see it that way, and I find that to be rather pathetic.  He better not go into the HOF as a Celtic.  He's got to be either a Buck or a Supersonic.

On another front, if Ray always loved Lebron this much, why didn't he sign with Cavs in 2005, I believe?  They went after him and Michael Redd, but both of them wanted to stay with their respective teams, so Cleveland ended up with Larry Hughes bahaha.  Ray would have been a perfect compliment to Lebron, but I digress.  Honestly, I was hoping that he'd retire after the beat down, even though no one wants to go out that way.  It'd be a fitting ending for him from our perspective at least, haha ;D
