Folks, a couple days ago when I heard that Klay Thompson was supposedly being offered by GS, I thought it was over.

But now that GS is having second thoughts about offering Thompson, I think Love is going to be a Celtic.

I really, really do.

Otherwise, the Golden State trade would've already happened

AND?.I am no longer even convinced that GS has a better package to offer, even when it comes to offering established players.

IF the Celts could include Avery Bradley in a S/T along with Jeff Green and either Sully or Olynyk along with a couple picks, I think Minny takes that deal.

Okay, so maybe Green, Bradley and Sully aren't as good as Thompson, Lee and Barnes.

You know what?.who cares?

Minnesota is still getting starting caliber players (well, sorta) and draft picks.

Now here's my question.

Could the Celts involve Avery Bradley in a S/T on draft night and at least agree in principle to a Love trade?

Because I know even though AB is a RFA that nothing can officially happen til after July 1st.

BUT, last year didn't Boston and Brooklyn agree to the Pierce/KG deal in principle even though it couldn't become official til after Keith Bogans signed a S/T on July 10th?

If we did include Bradley we would probably have to take Martin back, and I'm not too hot on that.  If we include Green as well there there would have to be another big shoe to drop as we would have some serious holes at the 2 and 3 positions.  I just can't wait until Thursday to know what's going to happen!

Bradley would have to agree but may for the right salary.  KMart makes $6.5m so package might be as follows:
Works in Trade Machine
Love - $14.7m
Martin: $6.5m
Total: $21.2m
plus to help Minny dump Salary Celts take SF Budinger or SF Brewer both who are at $5m with 2 yrs. remaining.
New Total: $26.6m

For #6 pick and Sully-$1.4m (Bass & him take Love's spot), Green-$8.7m (upgrades their SF position), Bradley (S&T for $6.5m), Bass-$6.5m, & Bogans-$5m waivable
Total of $28.1m

Summary: Minny gets younger player and better defender in Bradley, Improves SF position with Green, and saves $5m by waiving Bogans.

We still can offer draft picks to make it more attractive than other offers.

I've been thinking that this could push the deal over the edge. While I like AB, I don't see him as a starter, and would rather have him as the 6th man.

Rumor of Minni wanting established player/s, AB fits that pretty well. He has experience and playoff experience to boot. I think get him around 5 or 6 mill in a S&T, Minni might go for it.

Not sure who I'd take back. I still think a third team could get involved that could use Martins shooting for the playoffs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Bradley wouldn't be able to be signed and traded until after FA opens on July 1st. Meaning he couldn't be dealt on draft night.

You can, or at least they use to. It's usually a future S&T after date. So they have to wait for July 1st for the deal to become official. I think Bogans had to do it last year, but at a later date in the Nets trade.

And that's what I was unclear about.

I know technically sign and trades can't be made official til after July but I thought per our trade with Brooklyn last year and the Bogans S/T, that teams can agree in principle on draft night and just have to wait til after July 1st for it be official.

Kevin Martin isn't a bad player, is he? I know his contract sucks, but didn't Ainge also try to get Kevin Martin back in 2010 in a rumored Ray Allen trade?

I would think if we were willing to take Martin's contract, it would increase our chances of getting Love.

I just think Martin is pretty bad on D.  If we got him and lost Bradley I would still continue a search for another starting SG, and maybe have Martin come in off the bench.

Any team dealing for Love better be prepared to take at least Martin back and possibly either Barea or Brewer.

If MIN is going to lose Love, they have to clean up their salary cap in addition to getting pieces/assets/players back.

I still don't know how we got away with talking about Bogans during the draft. That might have slipped through the league's rule cracks. Because it says free agents, or upcoming free agents aren't allowed to be to spoken to until July 1st and not allowed to actually be signed until the salary cap is officially set, usually a week and a half later.

You cannot.  As an RFA he has the right to negotiate freely with any team in the league to negotiate a contract, since he cannot actually talk to any time until 7/1, you cannot trade him in any Sign and Trade on or prior to the draft, and you can't have  deal in place that wouldn't be consummated until 7/1.

They didn't add Bogans to the deal until July.  The trade that was discussed/reported on draft night had many iterations that did not materialize until the final one in July.  On draft night, if memory serves me correctly, we were get Teletovic instead of Brooks and no trade exception.

OP has a point

If Flip wants to win now...why don't we trade Bass , Green, Wallace, AB...they are proven players , vets who can play every night .

AB is the main guy I would prefer to keep. Get rid of everyone else, just keep Rondo, Bradley and maybe Green if we can't find an upgrade.
