This is one of the dumbest trade proposals ever. GSW is trying to win now. Why would they give up Klay for a draft pick who...
1. Will take at least a season or two to develop.
2. Might turn out to be a bust.
What player could GSW get at #7 that anyone with a brain would think is better for them than Klay?
Mike
I think the draft pick would be going to Minnesota as part of Love coming back to GSW. I am not sure if Thompson has stated that he doesn't want to play in Minny or if Minny said they would prefer the #7 to Thompson, but the deal is still relatively the same as before.
If you are Minnesota, why would you ever want the #7 instead of Klay? Why would you want some package of #7, Lee and I guess Barnes instead of Boston's offer?
This only makes sense if Ainge has not actually offered the #6 for Love.
Mike
It seems to me (and many others) that Flip is doing everything he can to avoid dealing with Boston (or that Danny simply isn't offering the #6). Preferring a package of Lee and the #7 to the #6, #17, a future first, and Oly from Boston makes no sense...unless they think they can make the playoffs. But if they are trying to be competitive, then they should prefer Thompson to the pick. It is all very bizarre.
I think it's simply that Flip wants more out of Ainge's package that's based around the 6th pick.
I've been saying for weeks now that Ainge has probably offered the 6th pick+15' Celtics pick+Olynyk+filler.
That's about it.
Ainge knows that Flip isn't wasting his time on a quick reload with a role player like Thompson and better than average starter like Lee. They still don't make the playoffs with those two and they only slow down any rebuilding efforts. Realistically the Warriors would want to unload Thompson soon because his trade value is hot, he's a restricted free agent soon and they won't be able to pay him the money he'll command.
Flip wants more than just the 6th, the Celtics 2015 pick + Kelly O + expirings. He wants more picks and assets. By pretending that the Lakers will send the 7th for Klay Thompson, Flip's trying to tell Danny Ainge that the Celtics offer isn't enough at the moment, and he needs to sweeten the pot.
As Austin Ainge said on Tuesday. ..everything that's said during the pre-draft frenzy is planted by team officials, for a purpose, that purpose being their own agenda.
