This is one of the dumbest trade proposals ever.  GSW is trying to win now.  Why would they give up Klay for a draft pick who...

1.  Will take at least a season or two to develop.

2.  Might turn out to be a bust.

What player could GSW get at #7 that anyone with a brain would think is better for them than Klay?

I think the draft pick would be going to Minnesota as part of Love coming back to GSW. I am not sure if Thompson has stated that he doesn't want to play in Minny or if Minny said they would prefer the #7 to Thompson, but the deal is still relatively the same as before.

If you are Minnesota, why would you ever want the #7 instead of Klay?  Why would you want some package of #7, Lee and I guess Barnes instead of Boston's offer?

This only makes sense if Ainge has not actually offered the #6 for Love.

#7 for Klay Thompson is fair value.

Ainge should offer the #6 for Klay. Klay's game would provide good balance to Rondo's in the backcourt. Make Boston very big on the perimeter too with Rondo, Klay and J.Green. Nice long athletic perimeter trio.

I would consider this depending on how the draft falls. IMO Klay is better than most of the lottery picks. If after we went got Melo and/or Asik/Gortat we would have a pretty good team.

It seems to me (and many others) that Flip is doing everything he can to avoid dealing with Boston (or that Danny simply isn't offering the #6). Preferring a package of Lee and the #7 to the #6, #17, a future first, and Oly from Boston makes no sense...unless they think they can make the playoffs. But if they are trying to be competitive, then they should prefer Thompson to the pick. It is all very bizarre.

I think it's simply that Flip wants more out of Ainge's package that's based around the 6th pick.
I've been saying for weeks now that Ainge has probably offered the 6th pick+15' Celtics pick+Olynyk+filler.
That's about it.
Ainge knows that Flip isn't wasting his time on a quick reload with a role player like Thompson and better than average starter like Lee. They still don't make the playoffs with those two and they only slow down any rebuilding efforts. Realistically the Warriors would want to unload Thompson soon because his trade value is hot, he's a restricted free agent soon and they won't be able to pay him the money he'll command.

Flip wants more than just the 6th, the Celtics 2015 pick + Kelly O + expirings. He wants more picks and assets. By pretending that the Lakers will send the 7th for Klay Thompson, Flip's trying to tell Danny Ainge that the Celtics offer isn't enough at the moment, and he needs to sweeten the pot.

As Austin Ainge said on Tuesday. ..everything that's said during the pre-draft frenzy is planted by team officials, for a purpose, that purpose being their own agenda.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Flip Saunders' posturing level just hit the max limit I think. After sorting this all out, I think we can surmise that Ainge hasn't offered the 6th pick in this years draft. That is the only explanation for this leak. A puff of the chest move from Saunders that says, "fine, look, I can just get the 7th pick."

I think we can all agree though that Ainge HAS to include the 6th pick this year. There is no way the Timberwolves take any package back without it. Ainge has to be careful not to push Minnesota away from the table too much.

Unless Ainge has a package for Melo constructed around the 6th pick already...

More & more of me wants to see this whole thing blow up in Minnesota's face and see Love walk for nothing next year.

Also, Thursday can't come soon enough.

The Lakers have been in discussions to acquire Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson for the seventh pick in next weeks draft, The Times has learned.

Hmmmm this is getting weirder by the day what?

More crap from the Timberwolves camp as we get closer to draft night.
Essentially trying to convey the aura of Klay Thompson somehow being close to the value of a 6th or 7th pick.

Not buying it one bit.

That's bold statement, let's hope it's true.

I think that has a good chance of happening. I really think Flip isn't equipped to play this game of poker.

This might well be another smokescreen, but if it's not, uh...I'd gladly trade the #6 for Klay if that's all it took.  Solves our problem at the 2, we acquire a C somewhere, and try and get a quality rotation guy at 17.  We'd still be a piece or two away but would have a ton of draft picks left.

I think its Minny pushing away. In that case singe should keep doing what he's doing. Let Saunders play Real Housewives and we just continue being the Celtics.

Its chess. Flip and Ainge negotiating:
"Negotiating with Flip Saunders is like playing chess with a pigeon. It knocks all the pieces around and craps all over the board. Then it struts around like it won", Danny Ainge.
