From my perspective, the value of 2015 draft picks peaked yesterday morning and it's all down hill from here. Pre-draft, I believed Okafor was the consensus #2 pick. The fact that a guard who is believed to have major boom/bust potential was taken over him makes me think I was overrating how "can't miss" Okafor was. You don't pass up on an can't miss all-star big unless you think he's not actually going to be an all-star. The fact that a role player like WCS went 6th is pretty interesting... pre-draft they said he could slip all the way to 21 due to his foot problems. I see him as having a Biyombo-esque career. The fact that they mentioned that Porzingus was "at least" 2-3 years away and yet he was selected 4th was interesting. Mudiay, who was believed to be one of the few guys with star potential, slipping all the way to 7th? Concerning. A bunch of you guys were in love with Winslow and that dude fell all the way to 10th behind Kaminsky. Rough. The Celtics took a guy projected in the 2nd round with the #16 pick which kind of lends credence to the idea that everything after pick 10 is a massive crap-shoot.
Trade value of those picks, from my perspective, just dropped significantly... and it's only going to get worse. When you see some underwhelming summer league performances, it'll drop more. When you see them struggle in preseason, it'll drop more. A couple months into the season, all those guys you were hyped over and salivating about will be riding the bench or getting minutes in D-League... suddenly your "can't miss" #4 pick is the next Dante Exum or Aaron Gordon or Noah Vonleh... You'll be prematurely calling them "busts" and shopping them frantically. Some of those taken after 10 will be cut. Some of you guys will luck out with a hidden gem. Most of you are driving a brand new shiny car off the lot... the value just took a major hit.
I heard a rumor that the #17 pick was traded for an all-star right before the real NBA draft took place. It's going to be funny seeing Yennie confirm that trade a day later when the trade value of those picks has taken a massive hit.
And now, my two 2016 1sts (MMSB's #2 projected and Disciples #4 projected) begin their slow climb to hysterical levels of trade value.
I happen to have a couple empty roster spots... so if any of you guys picking in the top 10 are having second thoughts and want to cash in while you can, I'm open to trade one of those 2016 1sts... you can let it ride, get an asset that will only increase in value over the next year, and try your luck at moving the picks for superstars next June.
