Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

With almost a year, and one full season completed, I've been thinking about who from the 2013 draft was the biggest steal?

Given that 2013 was considered a very weak draft, I think the Celtics did pretty well picking KO at Number 13.

Is there any other player you think tops KO in the steal of the draft stakes?

Note: I've not included the top 5 picks and Nerlens Noel

Well, I'd have to go with Giannis Antetokounmpo, as I think most on here would.  Olynyk looked impressive at the end of the season, but, MCW aside, the biggest steal, imho, would have to be Tim Hardaway Jr.  I wanted us to get him, although at 13 may have been too high even in a weak draft, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well, and how consistently well, he played in his rookie campaign for the Knicks.  I'm surprised the Pacers didn't take him.  He could have really helped their bench, imo.

K.O. looked solid during summer league play and the latter part of the season. Im sure he will be solid contributor for the Cs in the future

Yes a lot of people on this blogthink very highly of Gainnis, I think too highly actually. This season we should find out what these guys are really made of.

I`m on the giannis bandwagon.

Of course he must continue like this otherwise he can`t be consider a steal. But he has strong work ethic and he is very down to earth kid so i think he`ll better next season

I went with Steve Adams, but it was a close race between him, Tim H. Jr and Kelly. 20 years old 7 footer, produced reasonably in his rookie year for a good team, showed good potential defensively.

I haven't seen enough basketball plays from Giannis to be excited.

I think that you should put Mason Plumlee on this list. His was actually the first name that came to my mind.

If he keeps up like he has been, Deng was the steal of the draft. That said, Nerlens Noel looked like a pretty special defensive player in 2012-13. When all is said and done, I think he'll be the best player from the draft. He's going to pick up right where LARRY SANDERS! left off.

Adetokumbo amd Deing I think were the big steals.   I wanted Deng too.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
MCW won ROY and outplayed all expectations of him at the #11 pick. I'd think he'd be the frontrunner here.

Its a tie for me between hardaway Jr and mcw.  We even worked out hardaway Jr so its a tough pill to swallow.

Steven Adams. I definitely see him as the starter-in-waiting in OKC at the center spot. Just such a great blend of size and athleticism. He's already making an impact defensively and he's still relatively new to the game. Give him a couple of years, and I think he's going to be one of the better big men in the league.

If you guys actually watched Hardaway Jr play defense, you'd realize he is one of the very worst defenders in the league, and not the steal of the draft.

He's no Tim Hardaway Sr., that's for sure.

Anyway, the 2013 class was pretty awful, so it stands to reason that the 'steals' might be relatively unimpressive.
