Assuming we do not get Asik.....

Birdman just announced that http://sports.yahoo.com/news/despite-disappointing-finals-loss--heat-may-remain-lebron-s-best-option-next-year-071421653.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter to enter free agency, He made only $1.4 million this past year, and presumably could be had for a reasonable price. He's played the last two years at Center, exclusively.

This season he averaged 19.4 minutes, 6.6 pts, 5.3 Boards, 1.3 blocks and 64 FG%, with a PER of 18.5. His defensive stats, albeit on a very good defensive team, are all excellent.

On the downside, he is 35 years old.

What do people think of a two year deal, with the second year being a team option, of $7 mill??I'm thinking of a cheaper replacement for Chris Humphries, who while 29 yrs old, will probably demand three times what Andersen willl get...

Forget about him. Even if we don't get Asik we're going to use the tpe on Monroe.

That ship has sailed.

Could've used him before this year. No use for the guy now.

yea a 35 year old guy that relies on athleticism with a history of hard drug abuse.. He probably should have just taken the 1.1 million based on his finals play.

Birdman is a "pj brown" type. You get him when your stacked and need a role player glue man veteran to sign for the minimum.

at this point, Birdman is not worth it. I agree with all of the above. At his age, his drug abuse, breaking down, it is not worth it. I also do not see him as a leader who will teach our young players defense or w/e.

He is not a starting caliber center at this point.  His game is entirely predicated upon hustle and energy, which means he can give you some quality minutes off the bench.

I can only look at so much ugly on my 58" plasma at one time. And having Bird Man and Kelly Olynyk on it could hurt both my TV and my eyes.

That and he's way too old.

Yeah, he is a bit older than most teams would prefer, but there were times these last couple of years where he was the Heat's 2nd best player. I don't think he is overly skilled and he certainly lacks an offensive game, but if there is anybody in the league who knows his role, it's Birdman.

If we get Love, I am all for bringing him on board.

How do plan on filling the 30mpg at center that Andersen doesn't play?

7 mill for Andersen? We're shooting ourselves in the leg here. We can get this guy for the vet min. He is not a starting calibre player though.

Rather keep Hump, I think he will fetch less on the open market compared to his last contract and we can probably get a bit of a discount because he likes playing/living in Boston. I like him as a player so if he fits cap wise and we can get a fair deal I wouldn't mind keeping him at all.

The time to sign Birdman was during the 2008 offseason.  He's a defensive specialist who doesn't really have the weight to play against big guys, and like Waew said, he's a guy you add when you're in contention.  Somehow, I don't think that he'd really want to be a part of a rebuilding situation.  He would have been fun to watch with KG, though.  His lateral quickness was Garnett-like, and his shot blocking and dunks would have meshed well with that squad.  Does anyone have a clue as to why Danny signed O'Bryant instead?  It's mind-boggling to contemplate now, especially after he failed to take Deandre Jordan in the 2008 draft.  Ugh.
