I don't see what the fuss is with Dante Exum. Especially after I read what his weaknesses are on nbadraft.net (see below)  Sounds like a very incomplete player and really more of a project. Milwaukee can have him.  In my opinion, teams should be drafting for talent, not the potential that the talent can become.

Weaknesses: Level of competition is the biggest knock against Exum. He has not proven himself against a high enough level of competition to make anyone feel completely comfortable drafting him in the top 5 ... Some of his best performances have come in games (Under 19 World Championships) where he appeared to be one of the most physically advanced players ... Playing for the Australian National Team, he was given free reign to create offense for himself. Can he be as succesful without being given the same level of freedom? ... Exum has played off the ball a lot, and he doesn?t appear ready to be a true point guard ? His handle is loose at times ? has the ball poked away too often and occasionally fumbles when changing hands or directions ? Not an exceptional facilitator ? makes too many ill-advised passes ? Inconsistent outside shot ? does not always get enough elevation and has a low release point, especially when his feet are set (catch-and-shoot) ? Trajectory on his shot appears flat at times ... Settles for long-distance threes too often ? Not vertically explosive and struggles to finish with authority. For a player who thrives off of beating defenders off the dribble, his lack of ability to explode and finish with the best of them is concerning ? Tends to drive to the left and shoot with his right ? Struggles at the free-throw line, shooting around 65% in International competitions ... Can he develop his body and become a tough player capable of finishing with contact?

Sixers aren't sold on MCW as a PG.  They're trying to trade Young too and could pick anyone at 3 and 10. Milwaukee could pick him too.  We haven't seen much of Exum, but I get a sense that he's been on the NBA's radar for a while.

Sixers were the worst team in the NBA (and one of the worst in history) if you look at basketball-reference.com's SRS rating which factors in margins of victory and defeat as well as record.  I don't see Exum putting them over the top.

No way. They can have better than him. Guys like Gordon, Smart, Randle, Vonleh, McDermott are all better than him.

I like Exum and would definitely take him at six if he slides, but he has never really been an option for us - either before the lottery where we never had a chance at the #4 pick or now...and I am happy that we don't have to deal with him being a potential bust on the Cs.

It will be interesting to see how Exum reacts if he is taken by the Bucks...he seemed destined for Orl.

If the Bucks really did take Exum, and then if Orlando took Smart, things could get interesting, that is for sure.

Not sure it would change things all that much for the Celtics though.

I think Milwaukee would be a good destination for Exum. A city equally as glamorous as his beloved Los Angeles, plus all the Bucks fans can dust off their Aussie flags they got for Andrew Bogut! 8)

All because of a lousy coin flip. They really have to change that rule.

Would bucks take Exum if Embiid available? Doubtful.

If we can't get Embiid, then I would just assume take Gordon as anyone else, including Parker or Wiggins. Well, maybe Wiggins slightly better prospect due to his shot being further along.  But to my way, not much difference after Embiid. That is the prize of this draft, assuming of course his back is okay.

Exum is still only 18. But I think weaknesses should signal some fatal flaw or flaws to be really notable. That an 18yo hit only 65% on FTs in international competition isn't really startling, given that his shot is still supposed to be his greatest weakness. (Ahem, Mr. Gordon.) He's got a fantastic frame and length for a 2 guard, let alone a PG. Great BBIQ, and both offensive (creating and finishing) and defensive potential. I could live with him going over anyone in this draft other than a healthy Embiid.

I know this isn't an objective measure of worth or anything, and this is partially a function of Dante Exum being in Australia and thus not being readily available on TV, but every time I have watched highlights of Exum I have been singularly, profoundly disappointed. All of the videos I have seen on YouTube showing his highlights do not do his game any favors. That's literally my only knowledge of Exum, so color me not impressed. The only thing I got from those videos is that he is decent with the bounce pass and can hit clumsy lay-ups over short, white Aussies.
