Could the celtics amnesty Gerald Wallace, or is it only rondo they could amnesty?  Saw a post on espn from someone naming one player from each amnesty eligible team and he mentioned rondo.

The Celtics cannot amnesty Wallace, unfortunately.

I think they could use the Stretch Provision on him---but I think they'll need him, if Jeff Green gets dealt---or for a salary Match in a trade next season.

Could you elaborate on why they can't?  Is it cause he was last year's trade and most teams could trade for a bad contract to then just amnesty him to open up the books and pursue a top tier free agent

In a fair world, each team would have been allowed to use the amnesty clause one time whenever they wanted to. Unfortunately, that isn't the case, the latest CBA stated that the amnesty could only be used on players currently under contract for the team looking to use the amnesty. So because the Celtics spent wisely during that time and didn't have any bad contracts, the amnesty essentially punished the Celtics.

In short, no, Wallace cannot be amnestied.

If the amnesty was done correctly and the Celtics still had that bullet to fire, Wallace would have never dawned Celtic Green.

Think I am understanding it now.  In order to rob Brooklyn of the draft picks we are now stuck with that contract which means in reality for us to get rid of him we need to get robbed of our picks so in essence that trade might have set us back. Danny ainge might still have something up his sleeve but more and more I think about it all I see is full blown rebuild with our future picks. I said on this forum beginning of last year we will go through It one year and create a new big 3(I said rondo melo and someone like Aldridge) but I'm losing faith.

Picks were certainly added to the trade because the Celtics took on Wallace, but on a rebuilding team in a league that has a minimum salary requirement, having a guy with a crap contract isn't that big of a deal.

For me I feel like right now it's definitely something that can hold us back. I also feel like maybe keep picks hold out for next year's free agency class.  Brooklyns picks aren't going to be all that bad as well as ours. After reading a lot of posters opinions on the future I keep flip flopping on what I want to occur. I feel like we are strapped right now in every aspect and any team knows they can ask for anything and everything from us.

Thats how I feel. Also its not like we are contending for a championship. In time that contract will be expiring and it becomes an asset.

I think it's a stretch to say it will become an asset.  Golden State traded $20 million in expiring deals last year to Utah to sign Iggy.  That cost them two unprotected 1sts.  At best we can hope that Wallace will no longer be a liability.

There's a consensus around the NBA that we made out like a bandit from the Nets deal, even with Wallace's contract being one of the worst in the league.

Although I do believe the celtics made out like bandits,  i don't agree that Wallace isn't going to set us back. There's a reason why the nets gave up what they did because Wallace was setting them back as well. Celtics either go for the boom in draft day or we prepare for another down year.

Wallace is taking money of a very good player or star .....and we get nothing .

That money could buy Rondo some REAL help

It's nothing but a charity  contract.

Taking on Wallace was the price of getting rid of Jason Terry and picking up an additional first round pick.  I prefer having Wallace to having Terry and not having Brooklyn's 2018 pick.
