Question to the people that know the cap situation. I know we still have his bird rights but does he still count against the cap hold?

If we try to sign a player and remain under the salary cap, his cap hold will count against our ability to do that, unless and until he is renounced.  It does not matter for luxury tax purposes or for staying under the hard cap -- should we be subject to that. It is highly unlikely that the Celtics will use salary cap money to sign any player this offseason, and so it is unlikely that Krstic's cap hold will matter.

Might not be a bad idea to explore bringing him back

I believe his Russian contract has expired, so I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibilities.  Unlikely, but not impossible.

What kind of money would he want? Is MLE enough, will he want multiple years?

Celtics need a starting C, not a third string.  He couldn't even get off the bench in the playoffs when the Celtics were using an injured J. Oneal.

I think people on this board sometimes give Doc too hard of a time, but he screwed the pooch at figuring out how to integrate Jeff Green and Krstic after the trade, especially in the playoffs.  In the 24 games Doc put him on the court during the regular season, he saw about 24 minutes a game, and his per 36 stats were respectable at 14 points, 8 rebounds.  His fouling rate skyrocketed, so perhaps he couldn't pick up the defensive scheme (not surprising since the team didn't practice), but there was no reason for him to be glued to the bench in the playoffs.). He was the best offensive rebounder on the team, by far.

Is he a starter?  No.  Is he a viable rotation big in the NBA?  Yes.

I think I'd take my chance with Vitor and Iverson this season as the backup centers (but they better acquire someone better to start!)

Kristic wasn't a horrible player, but the value he had was on offense.  He was a pretty p----poor defender and rebounder, and really - what I want from the backup centers is defense, rebounding, and six hard fouls.

If he isn't traded, KO will probably still get a few minutes as the de-facto 5, too.

Not sure there's a spot for a guy like Kristic, who's not good enough to really make a difference in the present and certainly isn't part of the future.

I thought he was a little banged up in the playoffs, but I could just be remembering wrong.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Quick google says knee apparently.

I recall him being banged up somehow as well.

Nah, I think you're right.  Late in the season, he hurt his knee against the Spurs.

Not sure his presence would have made much of a difference.

Once Wade tore Rondo's elbow from its socket, the playoffs were over. I don't think Krstic was given a fair shake, though.

As the second or third guy of the bench on a cheap contract, sure. Other than that, why waste the time on him?

You are aware that being able to play defense is a top priority for Doc Rivers' teams and that he could give a flying turd about offensive rebounding, right?

Krstic excelled in an area that wasn't important and was deficient in an area that was important to the C's head coach. That's why he road pine in the playoffs and I had no problem with that.
