If the TPE is going to expire without being used, could bringing Perk back for a season be an option? I know everyone says he's way past his prime but having him rather than no center would seem preferable. Plus who knows, Rondo might make him look good again. Maybe sign him after he expires on the cheap?

Perk is cooked, and not even close to being worth his contract. OKC should have amnestied him.

No. Not worth using the money and salary space on him. Better to troll for a budget center who might have some upside.

Why let the TPE expire for nothing though? I'm talking like last ditch effort.

If he was amnestied and came back on a cheap contract, sure.  We could use his leadership.

This without question. I don't think he is worth the TPE but he is still a very valuable piece to a contender.

I'm trying to understand the value of the TPE but not really getting the answer I'm looking for. Would it be better to let it expire rather than use it on Perk for a season?

Why overpay Perkins instead of just keeping roster and salary flexibility for another move?

Its better to let the TPE expire than make a bad move with it.

It's useful for a trade, but you're basically taking on a lot of salary without sending any out so it adds to your payroll. Sometimes they get used but teams often just let them expire.

That makes sense now. I didn't know if it would be wasted to not use it.

If OKC values getting Perk's deal off the books then trade the TPE for Perk and the #29 pick this year. If they dont want to spend a pick to clear the $$ then its not worth it. With the pick included I like this trade as a plan B to getting Asik.

I would also be interested in adding Thabeet as the backup center. OKC has an option on him this year and its not clear if they will take it. He barely played last year after the emergence of steve adams but could serve the Cs well as a 10-12 min a game backup.

Assuming no Love, Asik, or Melo, it's difficult to conceive of what we would be doing with that salary flexibility we'd be preserving by letting the TPE expire.  Perk's deal doesn't last beyond next season, so it's not as if this would affect anything going forward.

That said, I wouldn't expect the C's to take on Perk without some sort of additional compensation, probably a couple of second rounders.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, just not explained as well  :-X

If there's no other moves to be made this summer, acquiring Perk at his current salary would mean we'd have a nice expiring contract that could potentially be paired with future draft picks/young players at the next trade deadline.  It would cost Wyc + Co. some cash (I love Perk, but he's no longer worth his salary).  But, it would keep open a salary slot.

And, we could use Perk; he'd still be our best pure 5, he'd immediately improve our interior D, and he'd have plenty of opportunity to play.  If he had a good start to the season, he might still be a guy that would generate some interest from contenders, if you're looking for someone to slow down Dwight Howard or someone to knock LeBron on his ass once or twice a game.  On an expiring deal - I think he'd have a fair amount of value come next February.

I would give them Wallace for Perk, in order to clear cap space for 2015.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
