Draft night
trade 13th and 17th picks to Utah for 5th and 35th picks
5th pick = Smart
35th pick = Hairston
6th pick = Gordon

Lineup

C - Dieng - He was pulling down 13 + rebounds, blocking 2-3 shots and scoring 10 plus points a game late in the year.  He is also a smart player, has good passing skills , can make 15-17ft jump shots and has exceptional length to get in tip ins Anthony Davis style. He looked 5-7 pounds bigger last season and with another 5-7 could be a really good center in this league. Maybe not skill wise but everything else including multiple monster 15 plus rebound and 3 plus block games.  This is the rim protector we've been looking for

PF - KO - He was scoring 20 plus points filling in for Sullinger. So too skilled +7" height  not be an above avg starter in this the nba. He is going to come in better shape, stronger and i'm sure we will see more tricks we haven't before.  Danny was wrong and he won't only be a complimentary player for us

SF - Aaron Gordon -  Explosive SF that has a high iq, great defender and does alot of things to give your team a chance to win. He is already about 225 and can top out at 240 without losing his explosiveness. Imagine a 240 pound AA in a few years.

SG - Jeff Green - Not a natural SG but can play the position.   He hasn't really succeeded as a SF in this league (poor rebounder, lack of a consistent post game) and might have a better luck at the SG spot. He would have size adv on a nightly basis

PG - Smart -  A human Bowling ball. He will attack you, can finish through contact and in time should become a better shooter/less turnover prone. Great defender and operator from the post.  Imagine a scrawny MCW or a much smaller Chris Paul trying to contain him from getting near the post??

Bench depth

Sullinger
Bass
Muhammad
Hairston
Pressey
Iverson/Faverani
FA sign

Minny does this trade to try to please Love. That Rondo can help the team make at least 8th in the west then go from there.  The team can give up Dieng bc they already have a starting center.  For the Celts this would be imo a right direction to make the current rebuild stop being a rebuild as soon and painless as possible. Maybe next season we don't make the  playoffs but i bet we do the season after and only keep getting better.  This would be a very strong defensive lineup, athletic, skilled with strong bench depth.

No one is EVER going to give up the 5th pick in a draft for two picks in the teens.

And trading Rondo for that garbage is a good deal but Love for Sully, 3 firsts and salary filler isn't?

Jazz might but laker imo would highly consider consider it.  They have like 4 players only signed for next season.

I actually don't mind the idea as far as value wise for Rondo in the last year of his deal. I was really hoping the Celtics would draft Dieng and Muhammed hasn't had much of a chance yet.
But...
I seriously doubt Rondo extends after one season in Minnesota and I doubt Minny gives up Dieng and Muhammed and that draft pick for 12 months of Rondo when Love has said he's leaving regardless.
It's just too hard out there in the Western Conference to make the playoffs.

The Suns with 48 wins couldn't make the playoffs in the West. The Bulls with 48 wins made 5th place in the East.

Minnesota needs more than just Rondo and Love. You'd need to send them Jeff Green as well to give them some transition scoring and 3 point shooting.

Good idea in theory, but in reality the maths are too stacked against Rondo and Love re-signing, and Minny has just lost Dieng, Muhammed and the 13th pick for a 12 month rental and if Love and Rondo walk they are left with nothing.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Minnesota would def have to spice this up with at least one future first rounder.  But if they offered say, a 2016 unprotected pick, I may listen.

The Wolves imo are so desperate they might take the risk to lose both Love and Rondo to make 8th place. Worse case they prove to their fans they are serious about competing and everyone else on the team gains valuable playoff experience

Danny Ainge on the other hand is not that desperate to overpay.  As a Celtics gm he has never overpaid

need to clarify the trade idea.  It does not make sense as written.

I would rather take my chances on a Rondo/Love combo.

I agree with BigALTheFuture, this Celtics team is probably worse than last years Magic, just because they're so young and inexperienced. Give them 3 years and they'd be pretty good.

The Wolves with Love and Rondo might make the playoffs but it's a stretch. Rubio and Rondo? What happens to Rubio? It would be hard for the Wolves to beat the Suns who had 48 wins last season. It's 50/50 that this Wolves roster makes it, I think Pekovic is a mug, but Rondo would get him up to 20ppg.
Just not solid enough defensively for me.

This is just awful...

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would
be a step down. I am pure 100 percent Celtic. I think if you slashed my wrists, my

This is just awful...

are you projecting how these guys will do in the nba/next season or since they are not a star now nor have the hype that Wiggins do, you automatically think they will stink??

Dieng again did 13 plus rebounds several games in a row late last season. Blocking detering shots left and right. He couldnt' do it for the whole year bc Pek was starting and he didn't get much time. But what if he can?  We get a steal

He is a good player that has was a big factor as to why Louisville won the Ncaa tourney a few seasons ago.
