" (Afflalo) wouldn't mind being moved to a playoff team. The clock is ticking loudly on his career as he'll turn 29 in October. The Magic can select a point guard at No. 4 this month, perhaps a signal that Victor Oladipo would move to Arron's position full-time. Afflalo could be in play at the June 26 draft. Chicago, Charlotte, Phoenix and Oklahoma City could use two-guards and have multiple first-round picks. Orlando Sentinel - See more at: "

I can see the magic waiting for Exum. If he is gone, they will choose whoever is remaining from the top 3 (likely Wiggins/Parker) and make a trade with the Jazz for Smart. The Jazz have their sights on Parker

2 scenerios on draft night

the norm

Cle - Embiid
Bucks - Wiggins
76ers - Parker
Magic - Exum
Jazz - Vonleh
Celtics - Gordon/Smart

If the bucks take Exum

Cle - Embiid
Bucks - Exum
76ers - Wiggins
Magic - Parker (traded to Jazz)
Jazz - Smart (traded to Magic)
Celtics - Gordon/Randle/Vonleh

Smart and 35th pick for Parker

unfortunately i don't think the Celtics have much a chance to get Parker in this case unless the  Jazz are big on someone else.

As for Afflalo, i wonder if we could get him for the 17th pick

If we get Love, Afflalo would be a great option as our starting SG next to Rondo. We would need to have something to offer Orlando though after trading for Love, and still would need a legit defensive center, although maybe Okafor for cheap can work as our center.

Rondo
Afflalo
Green
Love
Okafor

I was thinking that Afflalo is worth a pick in the late lottery. In the 10-14 range.

But if Orlando was interested in maximum cap flexibility -- Keith Bogans' non-guaranteed deal and the #17 (plus other non-guaranteed filler contracts to match Afflalo's pay) could be tempting. A bit lower in the draft than they'd like but no expiring contract so they don't have to wait 12 months for cap space gains.

However, I don't think Orlando is that interested in cap space. They only have $25 million on the books. They don't look ready (or interested) in making a big FA push to jump up the standings. I doubt major free agents would rate them highly either given limited talent on roster. So I doubt they would value that extra cap space highly enough to take the #17 and Bogans.

I reckon Orlando will hold out for a better offer. They look like the type of team that would be happy to take back a bad contract to get a better pick or prospect for Afflalo.

So I think Boston would have to throw something else into the pot in addition to the #17 pick. I think an additional first round pick in the 20s could make it a competitive offer.

Hell no! We won't give up #17 for him. He's 29 & will be done in 4-6 yrs. We can still have a good player like TJ Warren or Hairston at #17.

at very best, whoever we can draft at 17 would become as good as Afflalo in 3-4 years, which is too late if we want to compete now with Rondo and Love. Odds are the 17th pick will be a bust or a bench player as well. We already know Afflalo is a very good shooting guard in the NBA, and he is ready to produce now.

The problem is, I don't think the 17th pick is enough to get him.

I'm not a big Afflalo fan but odds are pretty good we'd get much more production from him in 4-6 years than we'd see from a #17 pick.

Mike Gorman is also a big fan of Afflalo, and I trust Gorman's evaluations. For example, he seems to hate Carmelo Anthony.

I would aim higher than Okafor, like Asik or Sanders, and in so doing I think that would be a very strong team in the East.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

i agree. AA avg 20 ppg or close to it last season. He was in the top 15 or around there

IF we draft gordon and got another C, even if they are a backup to work with Sully/KO

KO
Sully
Gordon
AA
Rondo

plus Rim protector and few other pieces.  This looks like a playoff bound team.

Trade Green for Asik if possible

Been a big believer in Afflalo for years. If the Love trade goes down draft night and we somehow convince the TWolves to a trade that includes Olynyk, Green, Bass, #6 and two future draft picks(maybe the Clippers 2015 first and the best of the Celtics and Nets 2016 1sts), I would also be down for another draft night trade of #17, the philly 1st or 2 seconds, and the expiring contracts of Bogans, Babb, and Pressey for Afflalo. Then send the Clippers pick and the Pierce TPE to Houston for Asik.

I wouldn't mind AA....he's improved offensively, and IMO he's always been at least a "Good" defender....IMO hovering around Elite.

Of course my personal 1st choice is Melo, but Aaron may be more achievable....

There are so many options that we have as a team...so many rumors out there....the next few weeks will be fun.

If you find a quality SF out there somewhere, I'm yours.

You know...for some reason in my head I always thought the same. Maybe it was seeing his perimeter defense ratings in NBA 2K, but I was very, very surprised when I brought up his Basketball Reference page to find that he has never averaged more than 0.6 SPG and has never have a DRtg lower than 110 (save for his rookie season when he played 12 MPG).

That is kind of frightening. The counter argument would blame his surrounding cast in Orlando, but at some point a player is what his stats say he is. I have not watched enough of him to really know his defensive ability - I'll admit that. His shooting and scoring ability alone make him a target of interest (let alone the fact that he is on a reasonable contract), but I am thinking his good defense may be a myth.

Can somebody who has watched more of him than I have dissuade me?
2013 CB Draft Champions*: Minnesota Timberwolves

I know that when he was in DEN, he was their primary stopper.
