Wow, quite the response from the Aussies there!

And Arjen Robben, man is that dude sick.  Definition of a world class finisher.  Give him even an inch and the ball will be in the back of your net.

OMG, Australia 2 - 1 Netherlands

I am picking Germany to win the whole shebang!

good man, smart choice  8)

EDIT: 2 - 2 van Persie
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I can't believe Australia is beating Holland. They have been good value for it too.

And just like that, Holland responds.

This is actually a really good game.  Far more competitive than I would have ever thought.

Wow!!!

Talk about a turn of events...

On one end you have a blown chance by the Aussie, and then just like that, Holland makes them pay dearly on the other end.

Spain dropping Xavi for Pedro.

Midfield looks more balanced now. Two holders in Xabi and Busquets. Then two playmakers in Iniesta and Silva. One wide player in Pedro. A more direct group. I think they will combine better with Diego Costa. A necessary change if keeping D.Costa in the team.

I think this should work well for Spain. Although I would have preferred them to stay true to Xavi and the team's identity and dropped D.Costa for Fabregas instead. But still .... a more balanced team than round one. Should be better performance from Spain.

Also dropped Pique for Javi Martinez in defense.

Oof!!  I feel bad for the Russian keeper.  There have been some goal tending errors, but that was almost certainly the worst.  That was embarrassing.

You could see that coming the way he mishandled some earlier shots. Korea would have won had they ran in on a few of the earlier bobbles or just went with a "shoot and go for the rebound" strategy. I was surprised we went with Nick Rimando as our 3rd keeper, but he's better than that guy.

"That guy" is Igor Akinfeev, generally considered to be one of the best keepers in the world. You're right, though, he had a pretty bad game.

I don't catch much russian soccer, so I'll take your word for it.

Must win for Spain.

And as Who said, the tactical change might prove to be the difference maker. But man, I really don't trust Iker Casillas as of right now.
